Interviews: LANiiDAE

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band LANiiDAE from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

The name actually comes from a type of bird! Joey was up late watching the Discovery Channel, and there was a segment on these little birds in the shrike family that impale their prey on tree branches. He thought it was metal, and so it’s been the name from the start!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I’ve been a huge metalcore fan since the mid 2000s. Bands like Underoath and Killswitch Engage really put me on and are still some of my favorites. As the genre has evolved, so have our tastes. Blending metalcore with pop and hip-hop type beats just felt really exciting for us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Oh yeah, some of our members have known each other for over a decade, played in bands and toured together, and just been close friends for a long time. Took us a while to gather the infinity stones, but we’ve got an awesome, tight-knit group of members!

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Chris: Underoath

Joey: Boston

Jay: Don Brocco

Larry: Like Moths to Flames

Kyle: He is Legend

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Most of our songs are pretty earnest, coming from real-life experiences and complex emotions that we all feel. From being in love and heartbreak, to addiction, to frustration with the chaos of the music industry these days. We cover a wide range of topics, and we definitely inspire each other to push and write about the hard stuff.

6. Where was your last gig?

I believe our last gig was in Nyack, NY, at Club Andromeda. Shout out to Myles for hosting us and letting us sleep on his floor!

7. Where would you like to act?

We’ve spent a good amount of time touring the northeast, so we’re excited to get down south later this year and hit Florida and Louisiana. We’re hoping to hop on some summer festivals next year; that’s definitely what we’re most excited for. 8.) Whom would you like to feature with? I think I speak for all of us when I say Don Brocco or Bilmuri. Both those bands match our energy, and I think we’d make something crazy.

9. Whom not?

Kid Rock lmao

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I think there’s always that moment right before you go on stage that your nerves get a little whacky. I still get it every time myself. I think the most important thing is that you get up there and just let it loose. People came to see a show, so as long as you’re into it and having fun, people will reciprocate that feeling.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Underoath for me (obviously haha), but over the years I’ve really drawn from bands like ERRA, Glass Cloud, and Static Dress. Some of our members are super into the SoundCloud rap type stuff, so I’m gonna say Too Slimey as well.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I signed some dude’s bare chest one time. That was pretty rad.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re so sick. All of our people in NC and VA have really stuck with us and helped us build what Laniidae is. We wouldn’t be anywhere without them, and we love them dearly ❤️

14. What do you think of our site?

Your website is great! I love that you cover a wide range of heavy music. I’m super into death/black metal, so it’s always a treat to see articles on upcoming bands in those genres!

15. Something to add?

Thanks for chatting with us! Our debut self-titled album drops on July 31st, and we’ll be on the road for the second half of August in the Southeast US. If you don’t already, drop us a follow on Instagram to keep up with where we’re at!
