Interviews: Remnants

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Remants from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

Andy says he came up with it. Aaron says he came up with it. Paul, Rory, and Carlos joined after the name was already established.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Aaron: I just love fast, heavy, brutal riffs.

Rory: I just somewhat gravitated toward it!

Carlos: Because we couldn't make it as a bluegrass group.

Paul: Metal resonates with me. It's one of my most listened-to genres, other than punk.

Andy: Always enjoyed it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Andy and Aaron have known each other the longest and were even in a band together back in the day. Overall, we all knew of each other from various projects over the years, except for Carlos. He's new.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Andy: I don't have one. Keeps me on my toes.

Paul: I can't pinpoint a single band, but Queen started my love for music as a kid. 

Carlos: Changes daily, but today is a Mars Volta day.

Rory: I have no idea.

Aaron: Too hard to pick just one.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Rory: Honestly, trying to get people to feel something through what I'm trying to express musically.

Carlos: Mostly my cat. On occasion, something else.

Aaron: Lately, it's been trying to one-up the last one. How can I make this one heavier or catchier than the last? Then seeing how the audience reacts makes you want to keep going.

Paul: Seeing fans sing our songs back to us and allowing emotions to flow through in the form of a song.

Andy: New experiences.

6. Where was your last gig?

Hoosier Dome, providing support for Left on Red.

7. Where would you like to act?

Paul: Pier 17 in NYC.

Carlos: Preferably in movies, but I'll even take commercials. As to where we'd play, anywhere new. I love seeing new places and meeting new people.

Aaron: The Egyptian Room here in Indianapolis. It's my favorite place to see a show, and I've always dreamed of playing on that stage since I was a kid.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Paul: Sam Carter (Architects)

Carlos: A little-talked-about band, but Darroh Sudderth from Fair to Midland would be my choice.

Rory: Brittany from Palecurse.

Aaron: I'd like to have a rap feature, so any decent rapper.

9. Whom not?

Carlos: Call it controversial, but I'm going to have to pass on working with Kevin. He knows what he did.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright?

Paul: My first show. I got over it after seeing fans move around and enjoy the music. It hasn't been a problem since.

Andy: No. Have a drink.

Carlos: Everyone does to some degree. I fight it by remembering that I'm here to have fun, and the more fun I look like I'm having, the more fun it is for everyone. 

Aaron: Not really stage fright. It's more of a fear that something isn't going to work properly with the equipment or lighting. But the second the show starts and everything fires as it should, it's go, baby go! And if there is an issue, just laugh it off, learn from it, and fix it on the next one. Don't sweat it!

Rory: I have not.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Rory: Linkin Park and Korn.

Carlos: Too many to list, but a short list: The Cure, Gojira, and The Ocean.

Paul: Queen, Architects, Imminence, Aviana.

Andy: DIY.

Aaron: (Old) As I Lay Dying, KSE, Bullet, As Blood Runs Black, All Shall Perish. (Now) Currents, Make Them Suffer, What Lies Below, Wage War.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We all kind of agree that nothing really weird has ever come up.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are all amazing.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's awesome.

15. Something to add?

Carlos: Be kind to one another and come out to our shows. Both are very worthwhile.
