Behind The Tracks: Cayne - Domina (Single) (2026)

I’ve always been an avid reader of comics and captivating stories—especially across fantasy, dark fantasy, horror, noir, and adventure genres—which naturally grew into a deep passion for literature. I draw a massive amount of inspiration from everything I read, and I keep a dedicated notebook where I jot down titles, quotes, and concept ideas that eventually evolve into Cayne songs.

"Domina" came to life right after I finished the first book of Jay Kristoff’s Nevernight trilogy. I originally discovered Kristoff through his vampire saga Empire of the Vampire, which completely spellbound me, so I picked up Nevernight immediately after. The character of Mia Corvere struck such a strong chord with me that I wrote down the word "Domina" in my notebook—which, in Jay’s fantasy universe, is the title given to high-ranking, powerful women. The goal was to capture her story of vengeance, her lethal nature, and the shadow powers that render her utterly fearless.

When Giovanni, our violinist and keyboardist, played us a demo with a strong 80s, cinematic vibe, I instantly knew it would be the perfect canvas for Mia’s story. We worked on the arrangement section by section until it transformed into the track you hear today.

Once the lyrics were complete, we realized that bringing in a female guest vocalist would make the track truly skyrocket. We started brainstorming voices that could embody Mia’s character, and Ambre was an absolute home run. She jumped on board immediately because she fell in love with both the song and the storyline. We couldn't be happier or more proud of how the final track turned out.
