Behind The Tracks: Get Out Alive - If I Leave (Single) (2026)

‘If I Leave’ was written in a small spare bedroom, before moving my humble music setup into the garage. This track was produced by me and former drummer of Rain City Drive, Zack Baker. This song was written during a period of isolation after my circle of friends had imploded. I was reaching back to my early childhood and started listening to Three Days Grace. It reminded me how sometimes less is more. It felt more musical to me than a lot of the sterile sound that’s out there nowadays. I wanted to really feel something and lean into writing how I felt while making it sound as honest and raw as possible.

The song is really about giving up and questioning if anyone would even care. The opening line in the hook says it all, “If I leave, will you come for me?” It deals heavily with low self-worth. As we age, it’s easy to look back on your mistakes and realize how they have affected your current situation. I wouldn’t trade a thing, but from time to time the weight of it all is too heavy. As the song evolves, I acknowledge I need a savior, and this can not be done on my own. I think a lot of people can relate to feeling like they are not where they thought they would be by now, and that can make you feel like a failure. This song is a reminder that you are not alone and everyone has their moments. Everyone could use a helping hand once in a while, and it’s okay to ask for help. Above all this, you would not be as strong as you are today if you had not endured the pain. I think that’s a beautiful way to put it.

The single artwork was designed by Sam Shepherd. The holy figure has fallen to their knees and is vanishing amidst the storm. This visualizes the idea of giving up the fight while everything comes crashing around you. That’s how I interpret it.
