Interviews About Albums: Jackals' Feast - Nightmares Of Drowning In Icy Black Waters (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Doom Metal band Jackals' Feast to ask questions about their album, "Nightmares Of Drowning In Icy Black Waters".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

We’re glad to be back! We spent our last album exploring psychological horror in the forest. This time we’re doing it in the ocean. We’ve also gotten a lot doomier, with some forays into black and death metal, and even classical. We’re really proud of this one.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

We actually had 3-4 other songs written for our second album and a completely different working title. But when “Nightmares of Drowning in Icy Black Waters” came up, we changed direction entirely and wrote an entire concept album around it instead.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Same as always, all music & lyrics are written and recorded by Jackals’ Feast.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

If I had to pick, I’d say the title track. We’re very much a vibe-focused band, and the vibe we were going for on that track was “oppressive.” There’s the Sabbathian opening riff/jam, a brief interlude, and then it’s just us trying to make music that makes you feel like you’re drowning in the ocean.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

The album is a concept album of sorts, telling a very Lovecraftian story: Hubristic man sets sail looking for adventure, encounters a sea monster, and is the sole survivor. He’s eventually driven mad by the experience and joins a doomsday cult that worships the monster. We’ll leave it up to the listener as to whether there are any metaphors they can take from it and relate to, or if they just want to enjoy a good scary story.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

I fought like hell to save my first mate

But the depths dragged her under and I lost her

And then I, left drifting for days

Choking back tears and saltwater

The years pass, I’m dry and I’m safe

I live where trees shade me and green grasses grow

But even now in the cool of the day

I am haunted by the vision of you sinking below

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

If our first album came around because of a shared love of Robert E Howard’s Conan stories, this album evolved from the work of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulu Mythos. The album is coming out on August 20th, Lovecraft’s birthday. That was a very deliberate choice on our part.

8. Something to add?

All of the usual “please like / follow/share/subscribe” stuff is so trite and overdone, but it really does help. We live in a world where musicians can’t just be musicians anymore; they also have to be promoters, publicists, and influencers, too.
