Interviews: HyperDump

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Modern Metal/Metal band HyperDump from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

It actually just came out like that; there was no deep thinking behind the name. We wanted something that sounded modern and cool, something short and easy to remember. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best ones!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The original line-up included members from a former heavy metal band. Over time, our vision of music evolved, and we wanted to create something much more modern. We started jamming together around different ideas, and the direction of the band came quite naturally.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Some of us have been friends for a long time, while others joined later. But for us, it's really important that the band is more than just a musical project. We need to get along well and build relationships that go beyond music, because spending so much time together requires a strong bond.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

It's not easy to name just one, but here we go!

Ws (vocals): Strapping Young Lad

Fred (guitars): Judas Priest

Holyv (guitars): Dream Theater

Azad (drums): First Fragment

Max (bass): Pantera

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We usually write together during rehearsals. One of us brings a riff or an idea, then we start jamming around it.

The rest comes quite naturally, and we build each song step by step.

Nowadays, we tend to focus more on writing songs that are effective, especially from a live performance perspective. We want the songs to work both musically and emotionally when played on stage.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was in April, in a small club in Limoges, France. The sound was amazing, the audience really seemed to enjoy the show, and the staff were incredibly friendly. It was a fantastic experience for the whole band, and those are the kind of shows that remind us why we love playing live.

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere we're welcome!

More seriously, we would love to play abroad, as we have had very few opportunities to do so so far.

Ideally, playing festivals would be amazing, but any international tour experience would be a great opportunity for us.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Probably Devin Townsend.

We love the intensity of his music and the fact that he is always coming up with incredible ideas.

His creativity seems limitless, and collaborating with him would be an amazing experience.

9. Whom not?

Honestly, I can't really think of anyone. I believe there is something interesting in every genre, even outside of metal.

The most important thing would be to work with someone we can connect with on a human level.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

When I was less experienced, maybe a little bit, but not anymore.

Now I prepare myself, focus on my playing and on giving the audience the best show possible, and everything usually comes naturally.

I'm actually more worried about technical issues or bad sound than stage fright!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I would say Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend, and Faith No More.

It may be less obvious, but bands like Soilwork and Meshuggah have also influenced us in different ways.

Some of us have also been longtime Iron Maiden fans, so there is definitely some classic metal influence in the band as well.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The weirdest requests aren't really weird – they're just incredibly well-timed!

There is always that one guitarist who comes up right after the show, exactly when we're supposed to clear the stage, and starts asking very specific questions about our rigs, amp settings, pickups or tunings.

We always appreciate the interest, but it's usually the worst possible moment because the crew is already waiting for us to move our gear!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We always want more of them!

But seriously, we are really grateful for the support we receive.

Whether it's from people who have followed us for years or from new listeners discovering the band, the welcome we get from the audience is what keeps us motivated.

14. What do you think of our site?

In my opinion, webzines like Breathing The Core are one of the best ways to discover new music and keep up with bands, especially underground ones.

With the rise of social media, there are fewer specialized websites than before, so we are really glad that you took the time to discover and support Hyperdump.

15. Something to add?

Thanks a lot for the interview and for the work you do. It's thanks to people like you that the underground scene can continue to grow and evolve.

Keep it up, and if you happen to see us playing live in your area, don't hesitate to come say hi!

Thanks a million for the amazing support

Best regards from Europe
