Interviews: Mira Disconnect

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore/Alternative Rock band Mira Disconnect from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned or did it just come out like that?

Coming up with a band name can be a nightmare... though occasionally it just falls into your lap. Mira Disconnect came from Greek mythology, with a slight spelling twist. The *Moirai* are the personifications of fate or destiny, so the name is a play on the idea of being disconnected from your own destiny.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We’re all naturally drawn to heavier, harder music, but we’re partial to a good melody too. Combining the two just feels right. We all grew up listening to similar stuff, so writing and playing in this lane came pretty naturally to us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yeah, we’ve all been in each other's orbits for a while. Tom (vocals/guitar) and Darren (drums) go way back and have played in bands together before, cutting their teeth on the local scene. Tom and Danny (guitar) knew each other from sharing stages over the years and regularly talking about starting a project together. Danny then brought in Sid (bass). Sid was the touring sound engineer for Danny’s previous band, ‘Years Young’, and had stepped in on bass a few times when their regular bassist couldn't make a show.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Sid: Alter Bridge

Danny: Bad Omens

Darren: The Mars Volta

Tom: Biffy Clyro

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

At its core, it's just the pure joy of creating something out of nothing. Making something you love and can be proud of. Rehearsing and writing is our happy place. It’s a safe space to blow off steam and express ourselves. Obviously, the bands we listen to and go see play a huge part, but lyrically it’s mostly observations of the world around us, personal experiences, and stories we pick up along the way.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was a local all-dayer. A band on our local scene called ‘Runt’ started putting on these all-day events, and they’re always an absolute blast. It’s mostly hardcore and heavy, alternative acts, and the crowd brings insane energy every single time.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Download Festival, hands down! That’s the ultimate dream. But locally and regionally, places like The Key Club in Leeds are top-tier, and the O2 Academies across the UK would be incredible to play. That said, nothing beats a packed-out, sweaty dive bar.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are so many, but ‘President’ are a massive favourite of ours right now. Sharing a stage or collaborating on a track with them would be incredible.

9. Whom not?

We’re not really ones to throw shade! That said, we’d probably stick to artists who share a somewhat similar sonic sound. Someone like Lil Wayne might be a stretch... though honestly, we’d probably take on the challenge just to see what happens!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

100%. We all have, and to be honest, we still get those pre show nerves now. When you see a huge crowd, it’s impossible not to feel it a bit. The best fix is preparation. Rehearse until the songs are muscle memory so you can trust your hands and voice. Once you’re up there, just focus on having fun. Remember that 99% of the audience won't notice a mistake, and the 1% who do don't care anyway. Brush it off and keep moving.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We have a massive mix of influences, but the common thread usually lands around bands like Rise Against, Four Year Strong, Architects, Polaris, Landmvrks, Reuben, Unpeople, Incubus, Jetplane Landing, Metallica, and Deftones. We could go on forever!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Haha! As Mira Disconnect, we’re still relatively new, so we haven't had anything too wild yet. In previous bands, though? We’ve had people ask us to sign some very questionable body parts, and once had someone try to buy the drum kit off the stage right after a set, cash in hand, right then and there.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They mean everything. We do this because we love making music, but having people connect with it and show up for us is what keeps us going. We don't take a single listener for granted.

14. What do you think of our site?

Honestly, it’s refreshing. A lot of music sites stick to the same surface-level coverage, but you actually dig into the creative side of being in a band. Love the track-by-track sections. That's something I imagine most musicians love doing. It feels like a hub for musicians and fans rather than just a news feed, and we really respect the work you put in to support independent artists.

15. Something to add?

Just a huge thank you to anyone taking the time to read this and check us out! If you like what you hear, head over to our Instagram or Bandcamp, give us a follow, and check out our latest single 'I.D.A'. We’ve got some big gig announcements coming up soon, so keep an eye out.
