Interviews: REDVI
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Deathcore band REDVI from Iran. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?
It was planned, but it evolved. The name came from two places. The first is astrophysical: O VI (Oxygen VI) is a spectral line—a blinding ultraviolet flash that happens when a supernova shockwave tears through a dying red giant. That light gets redshifted into the visible spectrum as the blast expands. So REDVI is that single, fleeting nanosecond of pure atomic violence—a star's final flash becoming its legacy. The second layer is human: humanity's Sixth Revolution. The five before—Cognitive, Agricultural, Civilizational, Industrial, Digital—brought us here. The Sixth is our transition from planetary to interstellar. REDVI is both: the death of what we were and the birth of what we could become.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Because heavy music is the only language that matches the weight of what we're saying. Deathcore and thrall give us the dissonance, the groove, the suffocating atmosphere—everything that conveys collapse and transcendence simultaneously. You can't talk about extinction and cosmic horror through pop structures. You need something that feels like the world ending.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Some of us did, some of us didn't. The connections formed organically through Tehran's underground scene. We came together because we were all hearing the same sound in our heads—and we couldn't find it anywhere else.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
We all love these bands: Vildhjarta, Meshuggah, Humanity's Last Breath, Korn, Whitechapel, System of a Down, Spite, Gaerea
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The space between what humanity claims to be and what it actually is. The collapse of faith. The silence of the universe. The violence of history repeating itself. And the question: if we're the apex, why do we keep eating ourselves?
6. Where was your last gig?
We haven't had an official gig as REDVI yet—just underground shows. But all members have performed before in previous bands. The underground scene here is alive, even when the world above feels like it's burning.
7. Where would you like to act?
Anywhere where there are ears and our proper equipment.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Any band in our style and genre. Collaboration with like-minded artists is always something we're open to.
9. Whom not?
Anyone who doesn't mean it. You can hear it in the music when the artist doesn't believe what they're playing. We have no interest in that.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Everyone has. The trick isn't to kill the fear—it's to make it part of the performance. That tension, that edge, that's what makes it real. Beginners: don't try to be perfect. Try to be present. The crowd doesn't want flawless; they want honest.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Meshuggah, Vildhjarta, Humanity's Last Breath, Spite, Whitechapel, Korn, Slipknot, Emperor, and the entire wave of dissonant, groove-heavy metal that came before us. But also classical composers, ambient artists, and the silence between notes.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing weird—just love and support. We're grateful for every message we receive.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They're the reason we keep doing this. We make music for ourselves, but when someone else hears it and feels understood—that's when it becomes something more. Our fans are sharp, loyal, and they don't settle for surface-level noise. They dig deep. We respect that.
14. What do you think of our site?
We appreciate breathingthecore.com for giving space to underground music. The more voices, the better. Keep doing what you're doing.
15. Something to add?
Our new EP Pigs is out now. Six tracks. Six descents. It's our most honest work yet. If you've ever felt like the world is burning and no one's listening—this one's for you.
