The woman in the album art symbolizes humanity. She covers her eyes because we can be fearful and willfully ignorant of reality and eternity. She's only half submerged because the older we become, the closer death gets, and merging back with our creator can be comforting, but also a terrifying reality. The other side of the "lore" is that of the spiritual realm mentioned in Ephesians. The influences, good or bad, can be overwhelming, so we're in a constant tug of war, so to speak, causing us to feel like "hiding" from it all. In the end, there's only one truth, and Jesus is exactly that, so there's solace to be found and our concerns can fade away.
