A Changing Tide - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Melodic Hardcore band A Changing Tide from USA, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, enjoy this excellent interview of this more excellent.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Well I don’t know where exactly I first formed the name, but I had a list of 5 names for bands & they all revolved around reformation. We reformed this band from a previous one with 3 of our current members and we just wanted a better name than “From The Unknown.” I hate that name so much. haha
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Honestly, I don’t really know that we know what genre we are for sure, I mean we’re metal but the sub-genre is weird. It’s really just what all of styles blended into. Our guitarist Matt just did a lot of soul searching and wound up writing an entire EP with it.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I had actually only ever met Danny (Keys) before we formed the first band, & then the second time around it was me, a former guitarist & Josh (Drums). Josh wound up pulling everyone together the second time around. Brandon (Guitar) & Seth (Bass) were trying to start a band & needed a drummer & a vocalist. Josh saw that, hit them up, hit me up & then I convinced Danny to play with us. We played shows for a few months then went hiatus after replacing our old guitarist, Kevin, for Matt. That was another connection Josh had, only ever met the guy at a few shows & now he’s probably my best friend.
4. Each band member favourite band?
This one is a hard one for me. I like a lot of music but mine would probably be a tie between Foo Fighters, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Underøath. Brandon & Seth are both Red Hot Chili Peppers fans till death. Our guitarist Matt is with me on the whole indecisive thing & has a tie between The Doors & Blink-182. The Mark, Tom & Travis show had a huge influence on both of us growing up & is probably the reason we came out like we did. Josh's favorite band is Architects & Danny’s is probably either Alesana or The Devil Wears Prada.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
As corny as it sounds, Hope. We preach it like a sermon at every show. The reason being is that, I’ve been suicidal, I’ve been in spots where I was trying to kill myself & I found that hope was the only thing that saved me. Hope in God. Hope given to me by my band mates. Hope in & through music. We’re not a Christian band but I am a Christian & I believe as a believer in Christ I need to try & help anyone & everyone I can, in any way I can. I don’t want anyone to ever feel how I felt & I don’t want people to feel alone. Sadly, it happens every day & people actually do kill themselves because there’s no one to instill hope in them, whatever that hope may be, I don’t care what is.
6. Where was your last gig?
Last show was hometown, Clovis, NM. Our last out of town show was Amarillo, TX.
7. Where would you like to act?
We aren’t picky about playing shows, we are in the process of booking several weekend warrior tours after we release our EP & just playing the hell out it. But for me personally, I would love to play along side any one in the UK or in Australia. Warped UK would be phenomenal. I think it would be great to play the “Self Help Fest” or Impericon’s “Never Say Die!” Definitely some dreams of mine.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
I don’t know that we have anyone specific. I think we’d rather do the old school thing and do a 7” vinyl split with other bands. No one specific, just someone similar in musical styling.
9. Whom not?
Definitely don’t know how to answer that. Hard working bands are always cool to work with, but I mean I wouldn’t want to work with someone that doesn’t take it seriously or writes music without actually putting feeling into it. It needs to come from the heart, not just be about how many breakdowns you fit into one song.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Well our first show was terrifying but we just got on with it & did it. Honestly, the only thing you can do is pretend like it’s rehearsal & have fun with it. I’m more comfortable on stage now than I am when I’m just out in my day-to-day work life. Kind of funny how that works out.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Biggest influences on us are definitely Norma Jean’s “O’ God, The Aftermath,” Slipknot's “Iowa,”As Cities Burn’s “Son I Loved You At Your Darkest” & Underøath’s “They’re Only Chasing Safety,” “Define The Great Line,” & “Lost In The Sound of Separation.” Huge influences.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Um.. Just when girls ask for a “selfie”with us. I hate that phrase. Just so wack to me. But nothing really weird at all. haha we’re not THAT popular at all.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I don’t know that we truly have fans but I’m seriously so grateful for anyone that takes the slightest bit of interest in our band whatsoever. This EP we’re putting out came from a really hard time in my life & it meant so much to me just to record it. I wanted to do it for myself & for the band, to say I overcame that chapter, whether anyone liked it or not. But knowing people like what we did in the studio, & having people come out to shows & support us is the greatest feeling I’ve ever known. I think I speak for everyone in the band when I say that we would love to get to know anyone & everyone that takes interest in us. We’ve been selling out on merch & actually making money off of a free download on bandcamp & it’s just so surreal. I thank God every day for having this opportunity.
14. What do you think of our site?
Honestly, I think it’s awesome. It’s so cool to see people that just want to help people out. I’m seriously stoked to have our single be featured on the home page. We’d love to keep doing stuff with you guys & be a part of BTC. Thank you so much for taking interest us. Literally made my day.
15.Something to add?
I believe the only thing we could add is thank you. We’d love to talk to anyone & everyone that likes our music & let you know what we’re about. We don’t have a set date yet, but our debut EP “I Fell In Love With A Mistake” will be out this fall & you can follow us on Facebook & Twitter for updates. Thanks again - Johnny of A Changing Tide
