Rather Be Alive - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Mathcore/Hardcore band Rather Be Alive from Spain, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
One day our drummer was listening to Refused when, at the end of “Rather be dead” song he listened the strength and positivity of the lyrics “Rather be alive!!”, that completely fit with the our way of thinking and what we try to transmit with our own lyrics, so he proposed to use this as our name and as we felt completely agree with it, we decided it would be our band name.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We think that the genre is something you just don't decide, it’s something that comes out on its own. When we first met we used to play softer music but because of influences and our self improvement on our instruments led us to this kind of music.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Just some of us but we could say we really join when we formed the band. Guitarists are brothers and one of them, Uri, was the basketball coach of who's now our bass player. And thanks to a Rai’s friend we met Miki and since the first time we jammed together we all felt that he was the perfect drummer for us.
4. Each band member favorite band?
Alex (Lead guitar): Protest the Hero and The Haarp Machine. Uri (Guitar/Vocals): Gojira and Mastodon. Miki (Drums): Berri Txarrak. Rai (Bass/Vocals): There are so many band's that I couldn’t say just one...instead I can tell that one of my favorite albums is Nocturne of Human Abstract, I never get tired of listening to it.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We really try to talk about the things surrounding us so we would think that we are inspired from the life we live, sometimes we talk about big social issues, sometimes we just like to talk about details such as the emotions caught in a meaningless fact.
6. Where was your last gig?
Well the last gigs we’ve done have been around Catalonia. These have been the firsts times we have worked with our new booking agency (Unwavering B&M) like a warm up for upcoming gigs we’re planning in France and Germany.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would really like to play everywhere!! We just want to play and let people listen our music, so we don’t care about the size of the room or the city where we got to play.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We would love to play with all our favorite bands of course, but we also love to play with less known or even unknown bands for us because we’ve met some awesome musicians and people, like “Fight for Ashes” or “Dead Label” and we want to keep meeting people like them.
9. Whom not?
Nowadays we’ve been really lucky with the bands we have played with so there’s nobody we don’t want to see again. The fact is that if we find something out of a band that we don’t agree with we just don’t give a fuck and keep doing our job.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
If stage fright means being fucking nervous and freaking out before starting the show of course we have. For beginners? We would say that when you feel like this just try not to think about it too much, in the first place it's normal and we think it's kind of beautiful 'cause it means it matters to you so, just try to put that extra energy in the show and focus on what you're playing, for sure that if you do that, at the end of the first song you'll be enjoying the stage free of mental paranoids! And if you don’t want to be much nervous the key is rehearse, rehearse and rehearse.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
When we were younger bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Death, Rancid, Mad Ball and even Red Hot Chilli Peppers inspired us the most. But in the late years there have been so many new bands and genres that we have ended up with each one of us listening to different bands so all of these are now influencing us the most. Some of them could be Structures, Gojira, Protest the Hero, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge and a lot more.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
It was a few years ago, when we finished a show there was a chick that wanted our drummer’s sweaty towel so badly to the point she started screaming so desperate that her boyfriend couldn’t say a thing to her. But don’t worry, no towels were raped at the end.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We think it's too early to talk about fans or at least we want to be cautious about this. We think we've just started our journey in music and sure there's people who may like our music...that's more than enough for us... there's people who like our music but at this point we think its non sense talking about fans... We wish we could reach a level where further than liking our music people could become fans.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think it’s a really worked out job because you offer good promotion to bands putting in there reviews, interviews and videos at your YouTube channel. We also find it’s great that you list booking and promotion agencies and record labels so musicians can contact with them. So you can be proud of your site!
