Blindfold - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Progressive Metal/Djent band Blindfold from USA, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The band name came out when our former guitarist Alex M. had a scenario that citizens in today's society (and most societies throughout history) wear metaphoric "blindfolds", either by their governments or religions etc. So we liked that parallelism and we named our band named after that!
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We believe Progressive Metal is the most independent style of metal. It has it all. You can play as slow as you want and as fast as you want. You can use complex structures through your tracks, complex harmonies. Also playing progressive metal is a mental challenge. If playing a music instrument helps you develop your mental abilities, playing progressive metal is one of the most challenging brain exercises. Plus besides all that, bands are usually trying to brainstorm their audiences with matters that refer to abuse of our society in many ways. Whether this is a physical abuse, a mental abuse, a social abuse or psychological abuse, or even scientific abuse. I feel like many bands try to open the minds of their listeners and are giving a small battle over the rights of people.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Our singer and drummer are the only former members in the band, while all the other members came in the band later. We didn't actually know each other.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Hmmm… That's a tough one. I guess Periphery and ERRA are amongst the favorite for all of us. Besides those, Stavros (guitars) likes Cynic, and Andrew (drums) likes Volumes. Thanos (guitars) likes Novelists as well and Nick (vocals) likes TesseracT.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
As I mentioned previously a dozen of matters inspire us to write songs. Subjects like psychology, sociology and neuroscience are our favorite I guess, but other than that our songs might have philosophical repercussions about art aesthetics and many more.
6. Where was your last gig?
We actually took our final form 1-2 months before our latest single release, and now we are at the state of recording our new EP, so we didn’t have the chance to go out for a gig yet, but we surely plan doing some as soon as we finish our upcoming EP.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Ahhh… There are actually so many musicians we would like to feature with. If I name some, I would leave outside other awesome musicians, but for the shake of the question, I will say Jake Bowen (Periphery) or Jason Richardson (Born of Osiris, Chelsea Grin).
9. Whom not?
Haha. That was a nice one. I guess Iggy Azalea and Chris Brown for sure.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
When I started doing live performances I couldn't control my legs. They were shaking like hell. I guess exposure and preparation are two very effective ways to fight stage fright.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Bands like Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree are some bands that may have not directly inspired us, but they are some of the leading bands that helped define the shape of todays progressive metal. After those came Periphery and TesseracT to give the progressive movement the shape it has today. Other than those bands that really inspired and influenced us are ERRA and The Afterimage.
12. What´s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked for you?
I guess performing pop songs live? Awkward but proved to be funny…
13. What do you think of your fans?
We do not actually have a big fan base at the moment, but we have some really great followers that buy our songs or come to our live shows. I really like that we have some fans that are good listeners and have music education. I don't care if ignorant people hear our music, but when people with knowledge do it I really feel proud for us.
14. What do you think of our site?
I think that you are doing a great effort trying to help bands like us get their music out there with any possible way. It's also great that you give them the chance to speak for themselves throughout your interviews, and it's also important that you ask them the right questions, so thank for all those things and many more.
15. Something to add?
We want to thank you guys for the interview and we want to thank everyone who helped us be what we are. We also want to thank Imminence Records with whom we recently signed a contract, and we want to inform the readers that we are preparing a new single release really soon together with the release of our EP and they are going to be totally sick!!!
