Behind The Artworks: Kill Her First - Künstliche Freiheit (2024)
After years of releases with photo-based artworks, Kill Her First was ready to try something different with their new album „Künstliche Freiheit“ (KROD Records, 2024). The Berlin-based melodic hardcore quintet had been writing songs for almost two years, when singer Gero brought „Burden“ into the process, a song loosely based on the mythical story of Medusa. Her aim was to retell her tragic tale and right the wrongs of the story. The lyrics of „Burden“ paint Medusa as a victim of misogyny rather than an evil maneater. Greek mythology had long been a topic of fascination for Gero.
With this song as one of the last the band put together, the album felt complete. And thus the decision was quickly made to put an Interpretation of Medusa on the album cover. Graphic designer Daniel Jakubowski (www.mister-7.com) went to work to create a self-confident face with the iconic snakes. A layer of digital glitches hints at the retelling of the tale of the antiheroine, while the 3D glasses reinterpret her deadly gaze as a gift rather than a curse.
"Künstliche Freiheit“ is out November 29th on KROD Records.
