Track By Tracks: Kill Her First - Künstliche Freiheit (2024)
1. REPETITION:
The first single shows a new side to KILL HER FIRST. Willy on bass fuses
with David on drums to form a surprisingly danceable rhythm section that
picks up on electronic drum & bass influences and enters an exciting
exchange with the insistently angry shouts. On the surface, the lyrics deal
with stagnation and lack of inspiration, but in-depth warn of the dangers of
repeating dark chapters of history.
2. M.F. SOCIETY:
It’s up to you to decipher the ambiguous title. Lyrically, it deals with the
human nature of our ego society. In exciting contrast to this lyrical frustration,
influences from hip-hop, nu metal and indie rock complement each other.
3. TYLER DURDEN:
With Rouven on guitar, the band felt a breath of fresh air in rehearsals. The
first riffs Rouven brought with him were already full of energy and inspired
Gero to write the Chuck Palahniuk-inspired lyrics – which in the end are more
than a tribute to the iconic anti-hero from Fight Club. What would Tyler do?
4. BURDEN:
The anti-heroine in the form of the legendary figure Medusa gazes resolutely
from the artwork. On BURDEN, she steps out of the passivity of her narrative
and casts off her old role of the villain. She draws on her strengths and
alliances and, through her actions, creates new hope for freedom and
redemption. A strong statement against misogyny and femicide. The epic
structure and melody of the song emphasize the storytelling aspect.
5. GUARDIANS:
GUARDIANS is a polyphonic, powerful statement. In addition to blatant
criticism of the tabloid media landscape of our time, the song contains what
could be the biggest chorus on the record. But there is also something for the
casual breakdown fan.
6. HEIRLOOM:
The story of a childhood. Gero deals with a dark heritage in what is probably
the most personal KILL HER FIRST song of all time. The song opens as a
ballad and slowly draws you in before breaking open, letting dancing beats
interact with brutal breakdowns. With HEIRLOOM, the band delivers a
varied, impressive, thought-provoking anthem.
7. S/W:
A song like a film noir. It's not the first time you've heard German lyrics from
Kill Her First, but with S/W it gets really dark. The shadows of a big city feed
the despair and intensify perceived loneliness. Musically, too, you can hear
the pounding of the eternally rotating carousel of thoughts – until the first-person narrator metaphorically frees herself from it in a rearing breakdown.
8. THANK YOU:
There’s sunshine at the end of the tunnel. The record ends – perhaps not
coincidentally – with an upbeat track that is unusual for KILL HER FIRST.
THANK YOU is a lively, driving pop-punk anthem and a lyrical love letter to
dear friends and all those who stand by you in difficult times. The band was
only able to realize this record with the help of valuable people and loyal
companions.
