Track By Tracks: CHÜZO - M.T.M.D. (2024)
M.T.M.D, which stands for “Maximum Threshold, Minimum Decay”; we put a lot of effort
into these songs and hope that our hard work can be felt through these songs that we
composed with all our hearts and souls. Let’s begin:
1. The Brutalator:
This song came as a complete collaboration between all band members. The
initial song structure was developed by Carlos G (Drummer) and Cristian S (Guitar). The slower,
groovier approach to this particular riff idea made us think about a bridge or transition into
another riff progression that went from high-pitch squeals and chugs to triple-picking heavy
riffing within the same song. Very influenced by 90s Death Metal and 2000s Deathcore. The
slow chugs and the open middle, where you can hear a subtle yet tasteful bass solo composed
by Alex S (Bass) in the background, made for a very dynamic experience when listening to the
song. And also, it’s a very fun song to play live. The lyrics were completely written by our singer
Mischa M. She and I were thinking about the song, which was just called “Brutalator”
because she thought it sounded “super brutal!”. Then, we thought about songs that were about
fantastic and mythical characters, such as The Wizard by Black Sabbath, Edgecrusher by Fear
Factory, and Electric Eye by Judas Priest. She took that idea, wrote her own approach to how to
express said idea; and came up with this Legendary character named “The Brutalator”; a
character that has been wronged by life in so many ways, grew up rejected, and discarded,
trained himself through maximum thresholds of suffering and pain to rise above with minimum
decay and lives to impart actual Brutal Justice upon all that he believes to be an imposer of
indignity and injustice towards another or any fellow human being. A brutal Robin Hood so to
speak; that avenges the poor and the forgotten and crushes the skulls of the greedy and
arrogant modern-day bourgeoisie.
2. Brand New Cell:
This song was mostly composed by Cristian S (Guitar). The riff idea came as
an ode to Swedish Death Metal; bands like At the Gates, In Flames, and Dark Tranquility. The
fast-paced tempo and the song structure were already developed by Cristian, but with the
collaboration of Carlos G (Drums) once again, it was molded into a dynamic song, with back-and-forth fast and slower tempos within the same song, with great drum transitions and crushing
yet melodic riffs. Cristian wrote the lyrics as well. This song is mainly about being
driven by revenge; to be guided by vengeance so damn much that in fact, you become hardened
and soulless. It is important to achieve vengeance upon your enemies but it is more important to
not drive oneself into a dark abyss over achieving said revenge. One must know when to
forgive yet never forget.
3. Bruised and Broken:
This song was written a very long time ago, but it took time to develop.
This was the first song that the Mark III formation worked on and the first song that marked the
beginning of the new sound for CHÜZO; a sound and style that we proudly call Aggro-Metal.
This song is a mesh of Grindcore, Hardcore Punk, and 90s groove metal. Blast beats and
breakdowns within the same song. The lyrics were written by Cristian and they are about being
taunted and provoked to the point of no return and the consequences afterwards. The outburst
of anger and rage that was bottled up for too long and has to come out and be expressed
in the most violent and brutal way possible. “Crush you all with my calloused fists! Beat you
down to your teeth!”. A brutal declaration of war to everyone who taunted us and fucked
us over one way or another; they know who they are.
