Band Biographies: Shadow Of The Talisman
Shadow of the Talisman are an alternative metal band that takes concept rock to the next level and
more. The project is composed of Mike Smith on vocals, Zack Harrison and Owen Summerland on guitar,
Eli Kinney on bass, and Kyle Williams on drums. Based out of Flint, Michigan, the five members are
releasing their debut album, As Above, So Below, in February 2025, a record that draws influence from
numerous rock and metal subgenres to tell the twisted tale of The Outlaw and The Dark One, with each
song designed to reflect the contextual landscape of the particular passage. In all, Shadow of the
Talisman strives to unite all facets of the metal scene through complex musical journeys, heart-wrenching
lyrics, and a community where every metalhead can find something perfect for them. One might not
even call Shadow of the Talisman a band, but rather, a village, a connective experience.
Formed in November 2022, the five musicians were united through college and musical networking
between the cities of Port Huron and Flint, which led to a powerhouse line-up that wasn't afraid to
explore new sonic realms, masterclass songwriting, and relentless live shows. Mike Smith’s vocals are
determined by raw guttural power, high tenor raunch-and-roll, and sweet serenades. Zack Harrison’s
guitar work wails and bends with melody and soul, and Owen Summerland shreds every measure with
thrash-fueled execution. With Eli Kinney crafting such addictive bass grooves that rock us hot through
the heart and the hips, along with Kyle Williams being the aggressive rhythmic and technical backbone,
Shadow of the Talisman truly fires on all cylinders.
When the band started to write original music, it became clear that the product was a melting pot of
days past and tomorrow's hits. As they progressed in their career, each new song pushed the
boundaries, every live show exceeded the last, and “The Shadowed” community continued to grow until
the band reached a milestone, playing The Machine Shop. Following that, each show further solidified
the growing public demand that the band record their music professionally. Starting with a small release
of “The Outlaw,” the band was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding their riffs, song
structure, and overall musicianship in the 5-minute track.
As of today, aside from the shows that Shadow of the Talisman would headline, numerous national acts
have invited them to be the opener for local performances. Most importantly, however, the As Above, So
Below album is being released to the public through Eclipse Records. Every day, more and more people
are discovering the band that unites metal subgenres of the past and present while continuing to carve
the way for the industry's future. Follow Shadow of the Talisman on social media, be sure to stream
their music, and catch them at live shows for a truly unforgettable experience.
As Above, So Below is scheduled to be released by Eclipse Records on February 21, 2025.
