Interviews: Glitchkill
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Glitchkill from the USA. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Shane: The name wasn't planned exactly. After we had initially formed as a four-piece after my audition and had gone and written a couple of our initial tracks, we tossed a few ideas in a hat and as we pulled them out, we voted... GlitchKill stood out among them and after a few more, we kept coming back to it as it just felt right
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Shane: Alice Cooper's Feed My Frankenstein, Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills showed me the way. Pretty much my teens consisted of Pantera, Metallica, and None Inch Nails, which I could identify with and really get into, just screaming those lyrics
Travis: I've just always gravitated towards heavier music. My family always used to listen to country, so I would buy CDs with extreme-looking covers to try to find heavy bands
Aaron: I actually started off drumming to hip hop at first, just as a pastime. Wasn't until high school I found myself wanting to start a band and metal was what my friends wanted to play. Plus it was a great outlet for some anger issues I had in my teen years.
Crusher: Pantera destroyed Ozzfest and I was hooked (laughs)
Robert: Learning how to play metal is challenging, and overcoming challenges bleeds into other aspects of life.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Shane: 4/5ths of us did. At one point or another though, we were in previous bands together. I had met Crusher during training when I tried to get into wrestling for XRW back in the early '00's.
After that fell through we were introduced to Aaron through a mutual friend, Rick "LSD" Rhinehart from Nothing But Losers while Crusher was still in NBL and we all jammed in a very little-known band named Sanktom. After that fizzled, Aaron and I went on to play in DeeM and Aimaora for a while until involvement in those projects ran its course.
Meanwhile Crusher has met Travis and our future graphics artist Brian Lewis when he ended up joining Etched in Stone. Aaron later joined him in EiS shortly after.
A couple of hours later with EiS, the group unfortunately disbanded and Crusher had migrated over to Bavmorda. During that time he had nearly lost his thumb and after healing, Crusher, Travis, and Aaron started jamming together again and began auditions for a vocalist.
After trying out a few candidates, I rolled through and just locked in with everyone, just jamming, and from there after settling on a name, the writing began.
As for our latest addition to the roster, Robert Cole had met Aaron through Musician Finder. We had a couple others out to audition but he ultimately clicked with the band very organically.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Shane: Fear Factory
Travis: The Dillinger Escape Plan.
Aaron: Hands down, Pantera
Crusher: Pantera
Robert: Black Dahlia Murder
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Shane: The rest of the band, a lot of life...it really comes from whatever clicks at the moment
Robert: Writing is my escape from the monotonous things life brings every day.
6. Where was your last gig?
Robert: Cupids Carnage in Los Banos
Shane: It was an outdoor metal show/wrestling show put on by our buddy LunchBox and Blacklist Wrestling
7. Where would you like to act?
Shane: In the MCU.
Robert: I'd say pretty much everywhere. If I had to choose though I'd say a huge stage in front of hundreds or even thousands of people at a festival
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Shane: Machine head, Fear Factory definitely ... Are we talking about our album or theirs? Slaughter to Prevail, Lamb of God, and Electric Callboy would-be killer.
Robert- " I'm not sure there are Hella ideas that come to mind, from vocalists to sick keyboard players lol
9. Whom not?
Robert: Not sure either, anyone that'll bring negativity to the image of the band.
Shane: Trapt.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Aaron: Wouldn't call it stage fright, but a nervousness. And for a beginners tip just realize that we all go through it. Take a deep breath and know you are only nervous because you wanna do the best you can do.
Travis: I've been playing metal in bands since I was like 14. Never really gotten stage fright, which is weird because I'm kind of shy in large groups of people.
Crusher: Thanks to wrestling I'm used to being in front of crowds, never bothered me (laughs) Just get up there and f'n go hard (laughs)
Robert: Get up there and do it!
Shane: What they said (laughs).
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Shane: White Zombie, I.C.P. and Twiztid, Fear Factory, Pantera, Slipknot and Machine Head, Faith No More
Robert: For me, The Black Dahlia and Within The Ruins
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Shane: A picture. Just not used to it
Robert: I don't have enough experience to answer that one (laughs)
Aaron: Autograph a butt cheek
Shane: He wins
13. What do you think of your fans?
Shane: I love that people dig it and can connect with it... they've been very, very supportive every step of the way.
Robert: Without them, we'd be irrelevant, and it was awesome seeing people getting excited when talking to them after our set.
14. What do you think of our site?
Shane: I dig it, Seeing how you can pick bands, countries, and genres, the number of bands I've seen on there, from all around the world, it's a great resource to discover new artists
15. Something to add?
Shane: We want everyone to go to our YouTube channel, and check out our latest release, Reign in Spite, if they haven't yet...and if you have, don't forget to like and subscribe and ring the bell for notifications as more are in the pipeline and we can't wait to share it with everyone."
