Behind The Tracks: Buzzard - Murder In The White Barn (Single) (2025)

Christopher Thomas Elliott: Why do men do evil? In “Murder in the White Barn,” the young daughter of a wealthy family is abducted by a local farm hand who has been driven insane by his sense of grievance and entitlement. She pleads for her life as hoot owls lament his and humanity’s megalomania. Spoiler alert: things do not end well. Like old folk ballads, the story is told as a dialogue that culminates with a warning. The title is a tip of the hat to Tom Waits’s “Murder in the Red Barn,” and the music grew from endless spins of Opeth’s “Damnation” and toying with Sabbath riffs unplugged.
