Interviews About Albums: How We Feel - Ready For War (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Rock band How We Feel to ask questions about their album, "Ready For War".

1. What can you say about this new LP?

This was truly written as a challenge to ourselves: Could we come back to making music as well performing after it had been quite some time away from that side of the industry? The album plays through as a story that everyone faces in their own way. Challenges of life, love, anger along the way. It’s meant to paint a picture of how we all feel everyday – with different emotions.

2. What is the meaning of the name “Ready For War”?

“Ready For War” is the title and the title track is the final song on the album. It’s really meant as a self-reflection of going into the “battle” of whatever it is you might be facing: Be it hardships, loss, reflection, whatever it is, we all face our own challenges. Facing it head-on and never giving up is really the overall meaning for each person to take in their own way.

3. Who composed the songs on the album?

We worked on the album with our friend Paul Bartolome. He’s based in the U.K. and has been a touring member of Asking Alexandria (Guitars, Backing Vocals) as well helped produce their latest effort (Where Do We Go From Here LP) as well as working with Escape The Fate and others. As a successful solo artist, it was wonderful to co-write with him and bring the song ideas to life.

4. If you had to pick one song as a favorite, which one would you pick?

For myself it’s a tough question… Each song means its own things to me (Chris) personally, but I think I would have to say the song “Fire” is my favorite overall. It was the first song we wrote and finalized together and just has a deep- rooted feeling about leaving everything behind you and starting over - while the world around you is burning down.

5. Is there a special message in this album?   If there is what it is?

I wouldn’t say “special” - but there is an overall theme that flows from the front to the back: It touches on many emotions that we all feel on a daily basis. From overcoming challenges, to anger, to love, to lust, etc. It all comes back around to a strong, positive, uplifting ending.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

I think one of the highlight phrases so far that has been well received would be the first song on the album, the line “I’ll make it out alive”. That line seems to strike a chord with many people, in their own different ways. The message of power and overcoming really resonates with a broad spectrum of people.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank specially?

We’re inspired daily by our lives, children, wives, friends, and experiences. This all adds up and builds into the songs that we end up creating and stemming back to the name, every day is something different summed up how we both feel. Some days might be happy, some angry, some loud and that is how we choose to shape our style, music, and image: It’s based around (simply), HOW WE FEEL. Let it be a reflection to not be afraid to show how you feel daily and not hiding the true you behind a fake curtain for anyone!

8. What’s next for HOW WE FEEL?

As far as live shows, up next we will be performing on Saturday, July 19 th at the Inkcarceration Festival in Mansfield, Ohio alongside Slipknot (the day’s headliner). This is an event that is near and dear to us, as we’ve helped work and be a part in our own way of this growing event for many years now. To have the honor to perform here is one we don’t take lightly! There are also some new live events being finalized now that we will be announcing soon that will be big shows this fall. Our goal is to get this album heard by the world, so we’re going to working hard on the live front to make that happen!
