Track By Tracks: Deathblow - Open Season (2025)

Open Season:

The self titled opening song was written pretty quickly based off of a riff we were opening our sets with. I think it best represents both the musical and lyrical ambitions of this record.

Open Season is basically about the descent of western colonialism as it lashes out at the most vulnerable communities home and abroad. You can see this most blatantly in the contradictions of our foreign policy as we assist Israel in inflicting a Holocaust on the people of Gaza.

Also reflects the rampant scapegoating of immigrants in this country as we are currently rounding up suspected gang members and sending them to foreign prison camps without due process and trying to deport students who speak out against genocide.

Also serves for calling out the mainstream liberal mindset in the U.S. that preaches morality and progressivism while ignoring the worst crimes committed by our empire.

1. DENY, DEFEND, DISPOSE:

This was written because we wanted just a simple catchy mid tempo song to help break up our fast stuff. The song is inspired loosely by Luigi Mangione.

This one should be pretty self explanatory but when you are able to rise to the top of our system by being the most cutthroat and exploiting people’s access to healthcare for profit what’s to keep people from eventually shooting you in the streets.

2. TORMENTOR:

We’ve had this song in our repertoire for years now but just haven’t ever gotten around to recording it. We just wanted a song called Tormentor because all of our favorite thrash bands had songs by that title and we thought we should hop on the band wagon. There’s no significant political take or message on this one. Just a catchy fast song that’s a bit of a palette cleanser.

3. NEVER AGAIN:

We’ve had this on in our rotation for a while too. Definitely has a bit of a different tempo from most of our other songs.

You guessed it, it’s about the ethnostate of Israel. It’s a reflection of the horrifying mentality that allows a society to dehumanize an entire population to try and justify the unjustifiable.
