Interviews: Brinicle
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Groove Metal/Death Metal band Brinicle from Colombia. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or come out like that?
It all dawned on Juan, one of the guitar players, while watching a documentary on
brinicles on the BBC channel. He started thinking about a sort of analogy between a
brinicle and the human race, and then everything carried on spiraling in randomness as a
brinicle itself, until it got to what the band is now.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We wanted to mix all of our influences, and that’s what got us to play what we do
know: a mixture of groove and technique, of feeling and technical skill.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The two guitar players had, and they used to play in a band together before. They were
the core to gather the rest of us, and that's when we all really got to know each other.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Edinson: Gorod, Veil of Maya
Juan k: The Faceless
Lucas B: Black Sabbath, Death Alluvial
Jean: Pantera
Camilo: At the Gates
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life and death, in general, all surrounded by politics, religions, literature, philosophy,
and all sorts of human interactions.
6. Where was your last gig?
It was at one of the best venues to play live metal in our city, Bogotá. It was, as a matter
of fact, a double-issue act, where a band of friends of us, Endless Genocide, also issued
their new album, along with our local issuing of the Perceptions of Reality album.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere! We’d love to spread our music as far as possible, always trying to get to
new ears and new minds.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
The Faceless, Cynic, Lamb, Gojira, Gorod.
9. Whom not?
We have no problem playing with bands of any other genres, even if they are not the
type of bands we listen to.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to
beat that?
All of us have, at some point. Practice a lot, and be always ready for issues. Take extra
cables, picks, strings; be aware of where you’re going to play; try to have everything
under control so you can enjoy your presentation.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
There are hundreds of bands if we sum the ones from each member, but among the
ones we have in common, there would be The Faceless, Lamb of God, Decapitated,
Gojira, Necrophagist, Pantera, ELP, and Dave Brubeck.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Signing the flag of our country.
13. What do you think of your fans?
More than fans, we believe there are people who enjoy and/or understand our music;
we love them to feel identified with what we do, either for the lyrics, the music, or both.
14. What do you think of our site?
It is a very nice place to get to know new interesting music, with lots of information and
sections. We like the playlist section a lot, and we definitely love your logo!
15. Something to add?
Yes. Life is a blink, so live it!
