Interviews: DarkFlow

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Shock Rock band DarkFlow from Switzerland. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out like that?

Well, the idea came from Flow, the Co-Founder of DarkFlow; it was his idea, and he asked me if I liked it. And of course I loved it since we mix the best Dark music we can, and we let it flow to others.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Shock Rock is my favorite style of music, and since we’re playing it heavier, I wanted to call it Shock Metal. It is my passion to mix theater and music, onstage as well as in the albums. You can feel the theatrics of our music and its own drama as being very powerful. DarkFlow is a Shock Metal band by choice, and we worked it thinking about those elements before composing and creating our music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Well, Flow and I have been extremely close friends for a long time, and we decided to do some music together, and one thing led to anothe,r and here we are: Being DarkFlow, the band was slowly created little by little until we found the best bandmates for DarkFlow.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

We all have different favorite bands. I love King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, also Blue Öyster Cult, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, and Alice Cooper. Flow likes Pink Floyd, Megadeth, also Blue Öyster Cult and Ozzy, Meech K likes Halestorm, ZZ Top, Clash. Dr. Trykster loves Muse, Bruce Springsteen, and  Linkin Park. Soa Grihim is more into Slipknot, Korn, System Of A Down, and Machine Head. We all have different tastes in music, but Flow and I have similarities. Still, we’re very eclectic and we like many styles of music and many other musicians.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

When writing, my inspirations are focused on things I've lived, things I’m living, and also the dark way I see things going on in the world. Everything I write is real or is scary, as I perceive my own reality. The first EP “6” is about all the people I lost in my life, who died each one for different reasons, while “Insane Circus”, our first album, is the story of how I got sick with a neurodegenerative terminal disease (Which is taking very long to kill me). And now our upcoming album is how I see the end of the world coming soon, treating the topic like everyone's death. Making these 3 releases like a continuity between each one, the first is the death of my close ones, the second is my own mortality, and the third is everyone's death.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was a showcase in one of the biggest venues of our little city, called Lausanne, in Switzerland. You can see it in our clip “Press The Button”. It’s a beautiful place, and many well-known bands have played there.

7. Where would you like to act?

Well, we’re ambitious, but we don’t like to be too narcissistic. We love to play in any venue that has a minimum requirement, like space to do a show, lights, and good sound. But if by choice, we would love to play at Wacken at some big festivals.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Well, we have featured with few musicians like Snowy Shaw and Andy LaRocque, I would love to have the chance to do something with King Diamond himself, but those are just dreams.

9. Who not?

I think talking badly or poorly of other musicians is not something that I would like to answer, of course there are musicians that are not in our style and others that can seem truly difficult to work with, but I’m not pointing any fingers and say “it would suck to play with this guy or that guy*

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Well, I do suffer from stage fright, that’s why Sean Horror is alive, he takes the stage and I as Sean Horror I don’t, but my personal true person is completely afraid of going onstage without make-up and being Sean Horror. My partners are more into playing onstage without a problem, except for Flow, who doesn’t like the stage; he’s not afraid, but he loves composing and doing music quietly in his own house, and not to travel and do stages here or there. As for beginners, I would say that training yourself into the stage until you get rid of the fright is the only way. You have to just go straight and do your best, at the beginning it's going to be hard, but then you get used to it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

King Diamond, Megadeth are clearly our first inspirations, but then you can have Alice Cooper, Blue Öyster Cult, Metallica, and even non-metal bands, but I wouldn’t know who else to name.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

No one has asked me something weird, yet one guy told me he wanted to do a Bullet Jacket with many DarkFlow patches, and it was like *yeah go for it”

13. What do you think of your fans?

Well I think the people that enjoy our music also enjoy the proximity and how open I am to them, I see them as equal to me, they are just guys who happen to like your music so, they are everything for me, I’ll always be open for a picture or giving them the right of having an autograph, talk to them or even some of them have manage to send me emails and I answer them politely. Cool people.

14. What do you think of our site?

I think that is a really cool site for giving exposure to bands that are there. Keep up the good work!

15. Something you'd like to add?

Well, I would like to say to people to follow us, write to us, and be free to tell us what you think about our music !
