Behind The Scenes: Stone Machine Electric - Chroma (Official Video)
The concept for the art of Chroma arose from the masks I had created for the album artwork. The masks you see are ones I created and painted to photograph. The masks were created to represent the individual band members with a unique color and symbol for each.
I photographed the masks by wearing a black body suit with a green screen behind me so that I could easily edit them out and adjust them for the different uses and shots. I wasn’t sure how the album cover would work out, so I took a bunch of different angles of each mask. They came in handy since I could sort of make them look around differently in each still frame.
When I decided to start working on the video, I just needed to do a shot of me singing the song to give it that face associated with the vocals. I think videos connect better when there is someone associated with the words being sung.
The other footage in the background includes live footage of us playing. We’re currently putting together an alternate video of us individually playing with and without the masks to replace this footage – it is looking really good and hope to re-release the video near the time of the album release.
Some of the other footage is stuff I’ve taken here and there. I’m always seeing things that I think would be cool to use for something later, or just to capture the moment. In there, you will see footage from some local 4th of July fireworks shows, as well as an eclipse I captured at home a few years ago.
I used Adobe Premiere Elements to splice everything together. I wouldn’t say I have mastered it, but it is very fun using it to create art and alter the video footage I have.
Maybe I’ll have time to create another video for another song coming out on Faces by this fall. We’ll wait and see.
