Interviews: Fail The Enemy

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock/Metal band Fail The Enemy from the UK. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it or came out like that?

One of the original guitar players came up with it. The name is a play on the belief that your opposition expects you to fail, mentally and physically, but instead, we are failing that expectation. Fail the enemy’s expectations in a sense.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The genre has just come from bands that we all listen to regularly. We also write whatever comes to our heads and whatever we are feeling at the time. We try not to overcomplicate it and just be honest.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Elliot and Nathan met each other whilst Elliot was already in the band. Nathan joined a few months later. They met Leah whilst looking for a new drummer in 2022.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Elliot: Bon Jovi

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Elliot: I am inspired by our own personal battles with life and its ups and downs. I have always liked music that you can relate to and words that mean something. I want to write songs that people can relate to their own lives.

Leah: I feel inspired to write when certain music is playing; it makes me want to create something. Also, writing sessions with the band.

Nathan: All the good things that happen, as well as the bad.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at The Underground, Bradford, March 2025, supporting Shoot To Kill.

7. Where would you like to act?

We have played all over the UK and would like to do so again. We have always wanted to travel to Europe to play shows, so that would be a big goal for us. Also is somehow we can get the moon and play with Earth in the background, that’d look pretty cool lol

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Breaking Benjamin / Being as an Ocean / Architects

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Elliot: I always get stage fright and nerves before any gig. Always fearing the worst and hoping for the best. I always feel better as soon as we start playing. My advice would be to look above people in the audience as opposed to into their eyes. It’s always helped me.

Leah: I personally have "stage fright" when it comes to recording rather than playing live. But for playing live, if I'm nervous, I can just look at my bandmates or focus on what I'm playing rather than what's in front of me. It's too dark to see anybody anyway!

Nathan: All the time, but as a wise man once told me, “it’s okay to go wrong, but only if you go wrong loudly and with feeling”

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

There have been loads of bands that inspired us for different reasons. Recently, it’s been Sleep Token and Being as an Ocean for the way they write their lyrics and how they convey emotions and feelings in their music in completely different and unique ways. Also, I’ve heard how atmospheric their music is, which is something we’ve always liked and always tried to apply to our music. Leah also takes a lot of inspiration from bands such as Korn and Deftones for their drumming and how they put different beats together.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nathan: “A fan once asked me to kiss his sister”

12. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are amazing. The people who come to our gigs are always so supportive. We had a long hiatus of 6 years, and a significant number of fans stuck around and are still supporting us now, and we can’t thank them enough! We love them all!

13. What do you think of our site?

It’s professional, and it makes us feel like we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Part of a community and part of a bigger team that fills us with confidence.
