Interviews: Methodemic
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metal band Methodemic from the UK. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
The band's name is taken from a black sabbath song with the same name off their album ‘13’. We thought, being from the home of sabbath, it was fitting that we should be named after the godfathers of heavy metal. The band was originally formed back in 2013.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
We love to play heavy music, we love it loud. But we don’t just like to play heavy music, we also like punk, pop punk. We’ve always said as a band, if you go to a gig, would you rather have a band that plays the same style for a whole set or a band that has different styles? This has always been our thinking, so that’s why we have the heavier song, the funkier song, the punky song. So there’s so much dynamic to our set.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
When we originally formed back in 2013, the band was formed by current singer Andy Dyer and former guitarist Reece Lloyd, who were both in a band previously called Exile. Guitarist Declan Moore and the drummer were friends through school and jumped into the band. We found our bass player, Andy ‘butter’ Morris, through a musician website called ‘Join my band’ and instantly clicked into place.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
Our singer Andy likes old school metal music, so Iron Maiden, Anthrax, and Motley Crue. Our guitar player listens to a lot of newer music like Jinjer, Spiritbox, as well as some older music like The Clash, Thin Lizzy, and Pantera. Our bass player Butter listens to a lot of David Bowie, Queen, Beartooth, him, A Day to Remember, and our drummer Kyle listens to Ghost, Coheed and Cambria
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
When we write music, we really just write what comes to our heads first. So that can be a photo or a phrase, or something that’s happened/happening. Our bass player normally thinks of ideas when he’s working a night shift at his job.
But when we have practice or writing sessions and we’re struggling for ideas, we’ll come up with a ‘noodle riff’ and it will turn into a song. That’s how some of our best songs are written, like Winner Takes All. That came from us just jamming over the bass riff.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig we played was at a bar called The Flapper in our hometown town Birmingham. We love playing here as it’s a great venue with a great sound. We played a battle of the bands gig called Metal2themasses, which is a chance for the winner to play Bloodstock Open Air in Derbyshire, UK.
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
I think as a band we would love to play outside of the UK, we’d love to be able to play America or Japan. But we know that we are a long way from that yet.
We would love to play a big festival stage like Download Festival
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
This is a tricky question. Only because our music is not set to 1 style, it’s hard to say. But maybe bands like Jinjer, Spiritbox, Clutch, Coheed and Cambria, and Anthrax. But it changes every day, and it all depends on what type of song we write as well. We’d also like to work with Rob Halford from Judas Priest, being from Birmingham, it would be a great honour to work with a true metal legend and would suit our style of music.
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
There aren’t really many bands/artists that we wouldn’t want to collaborate really. I think the only musicians we wouldn’t want to work with are the bands that inspire us the most, as they say don’t meet your heroes.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright?
I think every band goes through this at some point. I think the only time we’ve experienced it as a band is when we played for the first time together because we didn’t know how each other would act on stage.
11. Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
Have fun! That is what we say to new bands emerging. We played a gig with a band who were playing their first ever gig, and they were really nervous. So we told them to take some deep breaths and think there’s no one in front of you on stage and treat it like a practice. That’s what we do when we play to an empty room sometimes. But it’s always fun.
12. Which bands have influenced you the most?
I think because we listen to all different types of bands, influences come from all over. So there’s a lot of Pantera, Down, The Clash, Iron Maiden, Anthrax. The list can go on. It all depends as well who we are listening to at the time. So recently, our bass player has gone back into a pop punk phase and is listening to music from A Day To Remember, Green Day. Simple with a punch.
13. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We’ve not really had anything weird happen to us by a fan as of yet.
14. What do you think of your fans?
Still being a small band, our fan base is still tiny. But everyone who comes to see us always has a fun time. Even when we play with new bands, we make new fans who love our sound.
15. What do you think of our site?
Breathing The Core is a great site to find new bands from all over. Showcasing great talent and connecting with people all over the world. We love how each band is treated the same and put a spotlight on them, giving them the push to progress.
16. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We would like to say thank you for allowing us to work with you guys. Having spoken to Zach for a few months before taking the plung,e we can see how passionate he is about all things music and helping bands.
