Behind The Artworks: BANDERSTADT - Red (2025)
At the center is the Tyr rune — symbol of struggle, battle for justice, and the warrior.
In the center of the composition is a Cossack ship — the legendary Chaika, symbolizing life’s journey and destiny. A boat sailing on the sea often represents the course of a person’s life, with the sea as the unpredictable events and challenges. The voyage can symbolize a search, transformation, or fateful choice.
The Cossack ship moves through the elements of sea and sky, along the path of martial valor.
The crescent and star are ancient Ukrainian symbols. One interpretation says the moon is a young man and the star a young woman, representing harmony between the masculine and feminine in the universe. The crescent and star were often found on Cossack flags, as well as in the coat of arms and banner of the Korebut family, including the Vyshnevetsky lineage.
To the right and left, sabres rise among plants — like the Cossack spirit, strong and sharp as a blade, growing within the people despite centuries of oppression and terror by invaders.
At the bottom, a spear and halberd symbolize the glorious Cossack infantry, forming the foundation of the composition, just as infantry is the backbone of the army.
The Tyr rune appears again at the bottom of the artwork — a sign that only when you move forward and upward along your Path are you worthy to live and create for the good of your people and land.
At the top — the band’s name: BANDERSTADT.
At the bottom — the album title: RED.
