Interviews: Dr. Schafausen

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Dr.Schafausen, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

The name Dr. Schafausen was born from the idea of creating a dystopian alter ego — a kind of “mad doctor” who explores the darkest sides of society and the human mind. It wasn’t random. I wanted a name that sounded powerful, cinematic, and a bit unsettling.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Because it allows total freedom. Dystopian metal isn’t limited by strict rules — it blends djent, metalcore, trapcore, industrial, and ambient elements. It’s the perfect way to translate anxiety, fear, and modern chaos into sound.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. I’ve been part of the music scene for many years and met the other members through collaborations and mutual respect as musicians. We clicked immediately.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

We all have different musical backgrounds and influences, and that’s what gives our sound its unique identity. Milo (Vocals, Synth) is really into bands like Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, and Bring Me the Horizon — he loves mixing dark electronic vibes with modern metal energy. Elias (Vocals, Guitar) draws inspiration from Periphery, Tool, and Gojira, with a strong focus on technicality and groove. Victor (Vocals, Guitar) loves Slipknot, Architects, and While She Sleeps — he brings a powerful and aggressive edge to the songs. Dr. Schafausen (Bass, Keyboards, Vocals) has always admired Meshuggah, Tool, P.O.D., and Saliva, blending heavy grooves with atmospheric elements. Anatole (Drums, Vocals) listens a lot to Lamb of God, Slipknot, and the whole nu metal and alternative scene, which shapes his intense and dynamic drumming style.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Human fragility, the dystopian world we live in, mental illness, fear of the future, and real social issues. I also draw inspiration from books, cinema, and everyday human stories.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was in Russia, in a dark and intense venue — exactly the kind of atmosphere that fits the Dr. Schafausen world.

7. Where would you like to perform?

I’d love to bring the project to festivals in Northern Europe, Germany, and Scandinavia — places where experimental and modern metal have a strong following. Japan would also be a dream.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Collaborating with artists like Devin Townsend, Corey Taylor, or someone from the Tool camp would be amazing. They’re visionaries.

9. Whom not?

I wouldn’t collaborate with someone who doesn’t share an honest artistic vision. Style doesn’t matter, but the message does.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Of course. Everyone feels it, especially at the beginning. The key is to turn fear into energy. Rehearse a lot, trust your bandmates, and remember the audience is there because they want to share something with you, not to judge you.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Meshuggah, Gojira, Tool, Fear Factory, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails. They all pushed the boundaries of sound and concept.

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Someone once asked me to sign their medical hearing aid — I guess because of my background as a doctor! It was surreal but also touching.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are unique. They don’t just listen to the music — they feel it. Many of them understand the deeper message behind the songs, and that’s priceless.

14. What do you think of our site?

I really appreciate platforms that support underground and innovative music. That’s how real movements grow.

15. Something to add?

Don’t be afraid to face your fears. Art is a weapon — use it to fight your demons. And see you on stage.
