Interviews About Albums: ALBERTO RIGONI - Dystopia (2025)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Progressive Rock/Progressive Metal artist, ALBERTO RIGONI, to ask questions about their album "Dystopia".
1. What can you say about this new CD?
Dystopia is a powerful and immersive instrumental journey where three world-renowned bassists — Michael Manring, Stuart Hamm, and Alberto Rigoni —
merge their very distinct musical voices. The album blends progressive rock,
cinematic atmospheres, and experimental textures, pushing the bass guitar to its
creative limits. It’s a dynamic, emotional, and unpredictable soundscape where
groove, melody, and virtuosity coexist in perfect balance.
2. What is the meaning of the CD name?
The title Dystopia reflects a vision of a world going through disruption, chaos, and
transformation — yet not without hope. It represents the struggle between collapse
and rebirth, darkness and light, and the search for meaning in uncertain times.
Sonically, it mirrors a dystopian universe but also the human strength that pushes
us forward.
3. Who is the composer of the CD?
The music was composed primarily by me, with artistic contributions from
Michael Manring and Stuart Hamm, who helped shape the arrangements and
brought their unique personalities and ideas into the music. Each bassist’s identity
is audible — distinct tones, techniques, and expressions — yet always
complementary.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
I would choose “Genesis”. The digital version is already available for download
on http://albertorigoni.bandcamp.com
It encapsulates the emotional journey of the album — intense, dramatic, and
deeply atmospheric, with each bassist adding something meaningful and personal.
5. Is there a special message on this CD? If there is, what is it?
The message behind Dystopia is that even in the darkest scenarios, creativity,
unity, and passion can prevail. When different voices come together and respect
each other’s space, something beautiful emerges. It’s a reminder that art can uplift
us even during challenging times.
6. Are there some lyrics that you’d love to share?
This album is fully instrumental, so there are no lyrics. The music itself becomes
the language — conveying emotions, tension, reflection, and hope without words.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Musically or
personal?
Musically, the album draws inspiration from progressive and cinematic
soundscapes, experimental bass music, and emotionally driven textures.
On a personal level, this work is inspired by life’s struggles, change, resilience,
and the desire to push creative boundaries. I’d like to thank Michael Manring and
Stuart Hamm for bringing their incredible artistry and energy, and everyone who
supported this project — musicians, friends, and listeners around the world.
8. Something to add?
Working with two legends like Michael and Stuart has been an honor and a true
musical adventure. Dystopia is not just an album — it’s a statement of what the
bass can express when imagination has no limits. We hope listeners will
experience this journey as deeply as we did while creating it.
