Interviews: Born In Agony
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Blackened Deathcore band, Born In Agony, from Mexico. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?
The name was created by the band’s first official vocalist. He came up with it based on the musical influences we had at the time, and it simply fit the identity we were trying to build.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Back then, deathcore was the genre that resonated with us the most. It allowed us to combine elements from different styles without limiting ourselves to a single category, giving us creative freedom to write music the way we envisioned it.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We all met through mutual friends, local bands, and different musical projects. Some of us were former members of other bands, others were long-time friends of friends. The lineup came together naturally over the years.
The only member who auditioned was the first vocalist; everyone else joined more organically.
4. Each band member’s favourite band?
Lees: Deftones
Chris: Lorna Shore (Tom Barber era)
Carlos: Killswitch Engage
Flesh: Behemoth
Andrew: Dying Fetus
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Born In Agony’s lyrics are inspired by the decay of humanity, moral corruption, and the manipulation present in modern society. We are driven by the desire to explore psychological darkness and the internal conflicts we all face, revealing the raw, destructive nature within us.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was at La Oveja Negra’s venue. It marked the band’s return after years of inactivity, and it was the perfect moment to share the stage with old friends and familiar bands like Funambulist and Natural Disaster. We also had the honor of opening for Windvent and For My Epitaph, two incredible acts from the state of Chihuahua with national-level recognition.
7. Where would you like to act?
We’re willing to play anywhere that opens its doors to us. That said, our most ambitious goals include festivals such as:
Maryland Deathfest (USA), Deathfeast Open Air (Germany), Obscene Extreme (Czech Republic), Wacken Open Air (Germany), Hellfest (France), Bloodstock (UK), Summer Breeze (Germany), Party. San (Germany), Netherlands Deathfest (Netherlands), Rockstadt Extreme Fest (Romania), Mexico Metal Fest (Mexico), Hell & Heaven (Mexico), Force Fest (Mexico), and GDL Metal Fest (Mexico).
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
There are many artists we would love to work with, including:
Ian Smith, Tom Barber, Ben Duerr, Ricky Hoover, Lukas Nikolai, Ryu Miura, CJ McCreery, Devin Duarte (ex-Worm Shepherd), Johnny Davy, Adam Warren, Ethan Lucas, Danny Leal, Sebastian Grihm, Ville Hokanen, Ryan Vail, Christopher Bartholomew, Alex Koehler… just to name a few.
9. Whom not?
Pretty much anyone who isn’t part of, or at least close to, the genre. Other than that, we’re open to working with anyone.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes, stage fright is always there. Even adrenaline is part of the atmosphere. What helps us is trusting ourselves and each other. We know we’re prepared, and we know how to handle it. After the first song, the nerves go away.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Our main influences today are Thy Art Is Murder, Oceano, Signs of the Swarm, and Lorna Shore.
12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A close friend of ours once asked to be the band’s “showman” during our live sets. He said he could dance through every song to attract more people.
(If you’re reading this, Gabs… the answer is still no, haha).
13. What do you think of your fans?
We’re incredibly grateful for the support and reception we’ve received since releasing our latest single, Jezabel. It feels amazing to see positive feedback toward the work we’re doing. We hope to reach even more listeners as time goes by.
14. What do you think of our site?
We’ve always had huge respect for Breathing The Core. We truly believe in the vision you have for the bands featured on your platform, and it’s an honor for us to be part of your catalog. Seeing our single published and having this interview means a lot. We couldn’t be more thankful.
15. Something to add?
Thank you for giving us space on your page. We’re eagerly looking forward to finishing our upcoming EP.
If you haven’t heard our latest singles yet, you can find us on all digital platforms. We’re sure they’ll blow your head off.
To everyone supporting us: the agony is just beginning.
