Behind The Tracks: Post Pulse - Not My War (Single) (2026)
Post Pulse has released the first single, Not My War, from their upcoming third album, due out in May. Aggressively pulsing and tuned to end-times frequencies, the timely track takes the listener onto a battlefield where the fight is fought bloodily, also against one’s own reflection.
Not My War showcases Post Pulse’s musical evolution from brutal death metal towards melodic, catchy, and large-scale modern metal.
Formed in 2015, the band has consistently pushed its boundaries, and the newly released single offers a strong preview of what’s to come.
The band’s main songwriter and guitarist, Antti Karh,u who also wrote the lyrics for the single Not My War, opens the story behind the song:
"The first line I wrote for the song was "This battlefield I was put to kill was never my war" - so from there, I knew this song was about war or battle. But I'm not interested in war as a concept, actually, I'm sick and tired of wars and all that alarming bullshit that is happening right next door to us and in many areas in the world, so it took me a while to find the right approach to the theme that I strongly felt was something I wanted to write about."
The oppressive atmosphere and the heavy beat of the song helped to keep the focus on writing lyrics that penetrate the listener:
"I started thinking about what happens in a person when they have to face any kind of brutality and then act on it by someone else's command. What happens to our humanity, empathy, and ethics when we're faced by something that our understanding cannot bear - do we truly understand that we're facing a person who most likely goes through exactly the same emotions as us or could I even say metamorphosis?"
Even though the song might be more about "inner war" and maybe even growing pains, the band included a message in the song that is pretty clear:
"The song is also about power - power over us. Obviously, the song is about peace - and peace of mind. We quote the legendary John F. Kennedy's "A Strategy of Peace" speech on the song, and it's very sad that the speech doesn't seem to be outdated at all."
Antti mentioned that Not My War is not the only song on the upcoming album that touches on this topic.
"There are so many overwhelming things happening in the world that are impossible to escape or close your eyes to. It would be nice to do art that doesn't get born out of fear, frustration, or anger - but also, art is a better way to ventilate your feelings than to attack someone."
Post Pulse’s upcoming third album will be released on Friday, May 29. The band’s previous albums are the debut Halls of Damned(2017) and Return to the Halls (2024).
Not My War is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer.
