Interviews: Subjugated
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Brutal Death Metal band Subjugated from Spain. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just happen that?
What's up! The truth is that the issue of the name gave us more than one headache... As is well known, finding band names is becoming increasingly difficult due to the number and constant growth of bands. We would have loved to continue with our original name, "Carnivorous Voracity," since three of the members belong to that band, and we continue with the same musical style. But we weren't able to due to legal reasons. So finally, after several options, we opted for this one, as it was the most compelling and best suited to what we wanted to get across.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We´ve always been into Brutal Death. All of us listens this kind of music, and it´s our favourite. We love the intensity and aggressiveness of the vocals, the technicality of its riffs, and the violence of the fast double bass. So, we belive that composition flows from us, naturally, just as we would like to hear it from other bands like ours.
Besides being very effective at attracting people, it is widely known, accepted and promises a future of abundance and wealth.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, of course. As we mentioned previously, three of us (Ed, Turbine and Xabat ) played in the same band before (Carnivorous Voracity), so it was the germ of Subjugated. Also, we knew personally very well Oskar (Nekrocake) and Igor (Putrid Torso) very well, so it was also a natural way to play with them.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Xabat: Disavowed, Decrepit Birth, Despondency, Cerebral Effussion,...
Edgar: Putridity, Disgorge (USA), Unmerciful, Origin, Odious Mortem…
Turbine: Deeds of Flesh, Gorgasm, Inveracity, Necrophagist, Impure…
Oskar: Defeated Sanity, Abominable Putridity, Pyrexia, Jasad, Gory Delivery…
Igor: Cryptopsy, Suffocation, Pyaemia, Vomit The Soul, MDMA…
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our inspiration stems primarily from the self-motivation to create music that conveys the intensity and violence with which we enjoy this genre. But as far as the lyrics are concerned, and more specifically those of this album, it must be emphasised that although it´s not a concept album, everything revolves around the work of Thomas Hobbes and his famous concept "Homo Homini Lupus".
It's probably most common to find Brutal Death bands using themes of gore, torture, sexual crimes, and all that paraphernalia... We believe it is possible to talk about something more than that, and that the human condition offers aspects far more cruel and ruthless than any imaginable macabre fantasy, and that it also belongs to our reality.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last live (and first under this name) was on the 11th of November 2025 in Metal Fabrika, Gernika. It was their 10th anniversary, and it was an honour to play there. We weren't going to play till the CD release date (16th of January of 2026), but we made an exception, because we love those guys. We share the stage with our friends Hilotz and Ciconia. Really had a fun time. Even though the crowd only listened to one song from Subjugated, they got crazy and made even a circle pit! So it was a really insane experience!
We are looking for more!
7. Where would you like to act?
We attend a lot of European music festivals, so it would be great to play on some of them, like Move Your Fucking Brain, Death Feast Open Air, Rock The Hell, OEF, BA, Nice to eat you deathfest or Offal Fest, for example. It would be a dream to play in the USA, Japan or Indonesia. That scene is special, and it´s full of sicko fans!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Without a doubt, with all the great bands we love, it could probably be Cerebral Effusion, Phymerial, Impure, Haemorrhage, Disavowed... dreaming is free! We'll see what the future holds!
9. Whom not?
That's a difficult question. We don't believe we have the authority to refuse a collaboration, especially if we understand it to be relevant and beneficial to the scene.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
And who doesn´t! We have a lot of gigs under our own in a few bands. But everyone gets a little bit nervous before playing a gig, that´s normal, and it´s great! I would say if you rehearse hard and practise a lot before playing live, you will have more security, and that makes the difference with your attitude. But the most important thing: ENJOY!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
As we answered the previous question, we could say Disavowed, Gorgasm, Origin, Unmerciful, Deeds of Flesh, Visceral Disgorge, Decrepit Birth… among others.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Once a fan told us, "I'm your idol!" I think it's by far the funniest thing anyone has ever said to us.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We think they have to be deeply diseased to listen to this kind of music! But we love it! We hope there will be more from this point forward!
14. What do you think of our site?
We're fascinated by digital projects like Breathing the Core, which give voice to an underground world increasingly distant from the public eye. A passionate and altruistic endeavour that deserves nothing but praise. Unsung heroes behind the scenes.
15. Something to add?
First of all, thank you for this opportunity to communicate with the public in this way, and of course to your readers who hope will enjoy the interview! We hope you like our work too, and to seeing you soon at one of our concerts! In return, only ask you to continue supporting this carefully crafted scene! And stay fucking sick!
