Track By Tracks: Frozen Factory - Apoca-Lip-Sync (2026)
1. Apoca-Lip-Sync:
Since the album is called ‘Apocalypse Inc.’ – referring to the ludicrous destruction of the environment for money – I
thought it’d be fun, and less predictable, to make the title track a play on words. The song comments on how so
many of us are complicit in the travesty unfolding around us, seemingly reduced to parroting and reinforcing the
lines of our abusers.
Shooting ourselves in the foot seems to be a special characteristic of the human race, and this song, like many of
Frozen Factory’s, explores the hopeless phenomenon that, against all common sense, we keep hurting ourselves,
and encouraging others to do it too, for the benefit of a few absolute bastards.
2. Can’t Fight The Spiral:
We all die, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. Even if someone figures out immortality, the universe will
eventually end and sort them out. My father-in-law once mentioned that life feels like a spiral, appearing to speed up
as you advance towards the centre. I thought it was a good analogy, and Tomi had an excellent demo track just
crying out for this story.
Going deeper, I wanted to leave listeners with a choice about how they interpret the final lines of the song. There
are two possible meanings. One is optimistic, the other pessimistic. You choose.
3. Call Off The Firing Squad:
I imagine our neglect of the environment to be like a firing squad lining up to shoot future generations. That is the
point that we are at now. Our squad is standing with rifles raised, and we’ve almost pulled the triggers on the people
who should follow us, who should live here one day.
Will we lay down our guns, stand before the squad and plead for their lives?
4. Get More Stupid:
I wish, as the human race, we’d learn from history, learn from our mistakes, but we don’t seem to do that. We’re so
easily led astray, distorted by pride and compelled by hatred. The result, apparently, is that we behave more and
more stupidly, despite having the knowledge available to avoid this.
Those in power, in many cases, delight in civilians lacking wisdom and do all they can to ensure that the
trend.
5. The Nothing I Want More:
Video media has been pulling us into a black hole of nothingness for a while. This has gone into overdrive recently,
especially with the explosion of social media and its mind-numbing short videos and AI content, a lot of which even
instils horrific far-right notions in viewers.
Despite all of this feeling terribly wrong, the “nothing” seems to addict us uncontrollably. We’re exchanging
everything that has been precious for something utterly meaningless, and we seem to be powerless to stop it from happening.
6. Burning The Butterflies:
A world that is first so new and full of wonder is soon stripped of its majesty by overstimulation and toxic influence. A
child who looks at everything with awe soon barely cares to step outside. And so, through no fault of their own,
they become another heartless destroyer, joining in with our tragic arson of a human race that just opened its wings
– and a still blossoming ecosystem.
7. Slip Into Bed:
There are so many warning signs out there that our leaders are not taking care of ordinary people. The deceits are
right in our face, yet instead of recognising them, we seem to support those responsible for the deceptions as they
gaslight us and tell us everything is fine, or that our neighbours are causing the problems, among other lies.
They tell you that being woke is a weakness, but sleeping on their watch could be your final mistake.
8. I Am But One:
We all bear responsibility for ensuring the world is fit for future generations. Primarily, leadership must be held
accountable and must rise to the occasion to advance society, but there’s still a vital role for every individual to play.
And, right now, there are a lot of individuals out there who just don’t seem to accept the urgency of our environmental
crisis. The time to accept it should not be when the tipping point has been crossed. For this reason, I Am, But One
imagines the anguish of a soul who got it wrong.
9. Petrov’s Light:
In 1983, a principled guy called Stanislav Petrov stopped what could have been the start of a nuclear war, and the
world was totally oblivious to the whole drama. As Russia’s automated detection systems warned Petrov that
intercontinental missiles were incoming from the US, he had reasonable doubts based on his knowledge of what a
US strike might look like, and he refused to follow his orders to report anything detected.
He was right to go against the military machine, and he may have saved the world that day. To me, his actions – in
light of likely punishment – are a great example of how we could all aspire to honour the greater good.
10. There Are No Words:
The title says it all! This one has no words, but it’s a great atmosphere builder, and it gives a little extra space for
the band to shine.
11. Interstellar:
If we received a radio message from another world, how would it change us? I feel like it’d do us a lot of good.
Perhaps we’d realise that our divisions on Earth are ridiculous, and that all life in the universe is connected in a truly
beautiful way. Maybe we’d even begin to be nice to each other? Ok, maybe that sounds far-fetched, but I can
dream, right?
12. Out of Office:
There are too many “tough-guys” out there starting wars and ordering destruction. One is too many. We actually need
none. In this song, I imagine removing these guys from the safety of their office, strapping boots to their feet and
dropping them on the battlefield among the people they’ve pissed off. Seems justified to me that they’d suffer the
horrors they’ve created and finally pay the price themselves.
13. Reach Through The Waves:
This song gives a voice to the character seen on the front of our previous album, ‘Of Pearls & Perils’. She tells of
how a better world has been sunken with the drowning out of oppressed people. She goes on to encourage
everyone to work to break the divide between the privileged and oppressed, no matter which side they find
themselves on.
14. Happy Ending Not Included:
What if we could see where all this neglect is going? What would a journey alone to the end of this storm look like?
I imagine we’d arrive at a place where the fallout of misguided greed marks the landscape, sad artefacts of a lost
society lie strewn around, and deathly silence fills the air.
If you want to find a companion on your travels, you should book a different destination.
