Interviews About Albums: Blossom Cult - Home (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the German Alternative Metal/Progressive Metal band Blossom Cult to ask questions about their album, "Home".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Max: The concept of “Home” was born when we started the band in 2020. Then COVID—and some personal challenges—hit, and it became really hard to keep our vision on track. The past few years have been a struggle, both economically and personally—not just for us, but for most people on this planet.

So, finally being able to release this album feels like coming home to us.

At the same time, the past few years have been turbulent for almost all of us since 2020. What is safety? Where can we find it today? Who do I need to be to feel “right”? Who can I trust? What is actually real—and what isn’t? Do I have to choose a side, or am I allowed—and strong enough—to have my own opinion? Do I really need to have an opinion on everything?

In the end, we all need a place called “Home”—a place where these questions don’t matter as much. A place of unconditional love, where you can be yourself without a political checklist telling you whether you’re “right” enough.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Janos: Following what Max hinted at already, I can say that, actually, "Home" is a word I have used in song lyrics and concepts forever.

You can find it in songs that I recorded already as a teenager.

It's an important term for me – I always ask myself what the true meaning of home is - how can I find it, how can I reach it, and what is it? Is it a place, is it a feeling, is it a person? Am I there already?

It's probably a combination of all that, and there's an individual layer to this word as well as a societal one.

On our album, we explore all of those layers, and the album is the end of a broader concept, starting with the first Blossom Cult EP.

The final song on that EP was called "The Road Home", the final song on the second EP was called "Almost Home," and now on this album, we finally reach what ever "Home" could be in the last song.

It's the finale of a long journey.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Max: The whole concept was created by Janos and me in 2020. In my opinion, it’s always important that the singer feels comfortable with the songs, as he has to stand at the front and deliver real, heartfelt emotion. That’s why most of the songs come from Janos, while some come from me.

Sometimes we exchange rough ideas, and sometimes we share nearly complete songs, including orchestral arrangements and the usual elements we work with. In the end, it’s always important that the arrangements serve the vocals and the song itself. That’s where Janos usually takes over and does the final work when it comes to the arrangements.

The lyrical concept of “Home” was also developed together in 2020. However, the actual lyrics are ultimately written by Janos. There are some special songs, like “Paint The Sky,” where I created the first fully arranged demo. What makes this song special lyrically is that I didn’t write a single word—apart from the title itself. Still, it feels a bit like I contributed to the lyrics, as the song is based on an event or story that happened to me at a New Year’s Eve party I attended with Janos.

That said, there’s much more to the song than just that one story from seven years ago.

I also have to emphasize that during the recording sessions and rehearsals, many great ideas and arrangements from the other band members find their way into the songs.

4. If you have to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Janos: Since I really see "Home" as a big concept, it's hard for me to just pick one song.

But if I had to, I'd probably choose "End Of The Line" - it kind of combines a lot of what the album is about, thematically and musically – and of course I love that it features the guest vocals of Pain Of Salvation's Leo Margarit and Andreas Kübler!

5. Are there some lyrics that you´d love to share?

Janos: Since I picked "End Of The Line" before, I'll also go for a lyric part from that song, I guess: "Oh I kept searching so eagerly, I searched far and wide, but I could not see.

Could not see what was right in front of me:
You can only find true peace within yourself."

6. Something to add?

Janos: If you read this, I hope you're one of the few who will understand what this album is about.

I think if by any chance you're one of those, it would be a good choice to take some time, dive into the music, and then join us on this journey. Let's be home again!
