Interviews About Albums: Irkalla - Skyshatter (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Austrian Melodic Blackened Thrash Metal project Irkalla to ask questions about their album, "Skyshatter".

1. What can you say about this new CD?

This one is my best so far! In terms of songwriting, guitar / vocal techniques, and production.

2. What is the meaning of the CD name?

I wanted something to sound epic in a destructive way.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD?

So, that's me (Matej Kollar), as I did all the songwriting and lyrics.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

For me, it would be "Irkalla". I like the tension of this song for 5 minutes. Also, I think it has its best solo.

5. Is there a special message on this CD? If there is what it is?

Not in particular. I have chosen the circle of life and death that resonates throughout the entire IRKALLA project.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

I kind of like the pre-chorus of "As Stars Rearrange". It gives a good idea of IRKALLA as a whole:

"From entropy we were born
Into chaos we come home
The stars were liars, we, their prey
Dragged through fire as they dissipate"

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

IRKALLA is my solo project where I like to distill my vision of metal and try to create something unique. I like to listen to different kinds of music and metal in special, and this potpourri is also what I want to convey with my music. Sure, I want to thank all people who share the same passion and like what I create musically.

8. Something to add?

Enjoy and stay tuned for the next album!
