Interviews: Frequency Overload

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band Frequency Overload from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

One night at rehearsal, early on, Corey, Kevin, and Mr. Bush were throwing around band names and quite honestly goofing off. Bassist Steve Little had limited time and Said, ”Talk about this crap later, let's Overload these Frequencies!” And so the name FREQUENCY OVERLOAD was adopted!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Well, heavy metal and heavy music have been what we have all always done individually. This “genre” is broad, and we are kinda a melting pot of the sub genres as well. When we play, create, and write…it’s almost like we are conduits of metal. I really don’t know if we are playing metal, or if it is playing us through some stream of consciousness.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We did not know each other before Frequency Overload. One afternoon, drummer Kevin Daily and guitarist Corey Schaefer were at a travel basketball game for their sons. Being surrounded by polo shirt-wearing soccer mom types, they gravitated to each other because they were both wearing metal shirts. They exchanged numbers and started to get together and jam for fun. I was out of the scene for years, and after a near-death experience, I returned to my love of metal. I went on a Facebook group of musicians in our area and posted that I was an experienced singer-songwriter and looking to jam. Kevin reached out, and we started to play and write. We quickly realized that this project was something more...taking a life of its own. Again, we returned to the same Facebook group and found Steve Little, who fit like a glove. FREQUENCY OVERLOAD was born.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Mr. Bush (vocals): Carnivore

Corey Schaefer (guitar): Pantera

Steve Little (bass): Tool

Kevin Daily (drums): Death Angel

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Guitarist Corey Schaefer and bassist Steve Little write the bulk of the riffs as if somehow internally receiving prompts. Often, drummer Kevin Daily will join Steve and Corey in an impromptu ad lib power jam that becomes part or all of a song. As far as lyrics, Mr. Bush lets the music dictate the feeling and meaning of the lyrics. He likes to write about killers, the human condition, and internal strife.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at The North Fork Brewing Company in Riverhead, New York. That’s the brewery that makes our promotional beer, Grand Pappi Ale!

7. Where would you like to play?

We, as a band, would like to play some American metal festivals, like RPM, Tennessee Metal Devastation, and the Milwaukee Metal Fest. Our overseas interests include everything…I know Kreator owns a club, and outdoor festivals in Europe look amazing.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Who do we want to play with…hmmmm. I won't name the big obvious legends, although they are on the list of dream gigs. Right now, realistically, Annihilator, Sacred Reich, D.R.I., Carnivore A.D., and our pal and recording engineer Joey Z’s band, Life Of Agony.

9. Whom not?

We don’t really want to do the showcases that are two different as far as music style. We wouldn't want to play alongside country or rap bands. That is a no-go for us. Also, on a personal note, bands that preach. Please shut up and play. I find musicians who use that podium and forum to tell people how to live, vote, or anything else pretentious narcissism. I keep my religion, politics, and deviant sexual fetishes where they belong…PRIVATE! So bands that talk that shit on or off stage, fuck off or be jolly stomped. Take your confirmation bias cherry picked facts, and go fuck yourself.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Members of Frequency Overload have experienced stage fright or nerves. The techniques we have employed are meditation, dress rehearsal with friends, and alcoholism.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The most inspirational bands for us are bands like Life of Agony. They have had ups and downs and many stages of growth. And they are still out there MURDERING it! Having recorded our first album and now tracking the second with Joey Z has been cathartic. His battle stories, insights, and mentorship have been irreplaceable and foundational.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Our drummer, Kevin, had a female fan ask for his socks. It was a strange night, and we found out from her friends that she loves metal drummers. Apparently, she likes to smell the sweaty drum pheromones while masturbating.

13. What do you think of your fans?

What does Frequency Overload think of the fans? What do birds feel about the sky? How do all creatures feel about oxygen? They are EVERYTHING! The reason we do this is for us, but without them, we have nothing. We love and cherish them. That’s part of the reason why, on stage, our messaging is not coercive in any way. Unwanted advice is always self-serving.

14. What do you think of our site?

We follow the social media accounts, and they look great. You seem to have a non-biased approach to music and a thorough investment and commitment to excellence. We were unable to pull up the domain at the time of this interview.

15. Something to add?

As always and as it should be. We at Frequency Overload share much gratitude and thanks. To you, Breathing the Core, to Sodeh records, to fans, and friends. To all the metal heads, give it a listen and reach out. We love to hear from you! All roads lead to and from www.frequencyoverload.com
