Interviews: Jawfane

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore/Metalcore band Jawfane from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out just like that?

Cory: I got a call from our original drummer saying he wanted to start a band, he had found a singer (paulsdeeep) and that we just need a bassist, I called Chase, we had been in a band previously together, and the rest is history, Jesse was around from the beginning but didn’t formally join the band until about year after started.

The band Name came from Paul Graham and is a misspelling of a medieval term for lockjaw. (Jawfain)

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Cory: Because it is emotionally based and we play to our personalities with our music, so post hardcore/metalcore was the home we found, but not one we sought.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Cory: Current lineup, I knew Chase from a previous band, and Jesse I knew through Chase, but I didn’t meet AJ until his tryout.

Jesse: Knew Chase since the junior year of high school. Encountered Cory at a prior project’s practices and shows. AJ, we did not really meet until his audition to be our drummer, but I know

Chase knew him before this.

4. Each band member’s favourite band?

Cory: Taking Back Sunday

Chase: Tool

AJ: System of a Down

Jesse: If These Trees Could Talk

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Cory: the world around me, the people in it, and finding things that people think but never say.

Jesse: So long as there are thoughts and feelings unable to be conveyed through language or words, then I will still have work to do.

6. Where was your last gig?

Last year at Metal to Flesh Fest, but we played the Roxglass in Cave City, Kentucky, May 2!!

7. Where would you like to perform?

Cory: Madison Square Garden, big dream.

Jesse: The Rymon Auditorium. Legendary venue, want to make our mark.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Cory: Don Broco, AFI, or Alexisonfire.

9. Whom not?

Cory: Any band with a big ego, no matter the stage, we all play songs we love. The music should matter.

Jesse: No nazis. No posers. No egomaniacs.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Cory: We have played shows on no sleep, traveled 10 hours to be ripped off afterward, but we have always suffered together. I’d think that the stage is home, and home is where you go to heal, not suffer.

Advice is practice. Ask some friends over when the band rehearses, do garage shows at someone’s house. The formality of a real venue can be intimidating, but here’s the secret, best shows, especially early on, are not at formal venues. Don’t be afraid to call your living room a stage

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Cory: My friends in the local scene inspire me the most, always have. No name, but check out stories and Instagram for homies that we know that bring us up.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Cory: An autograph, which I guess isn’t weird in and of itself, but I'll never see myself as someone worth asking for an autograph for, I’m just a dude with a family, a guitar, and a big dream.

Jesse: I…don’t think it’s suitable for print.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Cory: They are the best, and they keep our band going more than they think.

Jesse: They’re all incredible. It’s so strange to see the effect we have on the world and how it feeds back to us. We really do love you all.

14. What do you think of our site?

Beautiful, easy to use. Thank you for what you do for the little bands in the scene, and you have a stellar layout.
