Interviews: Remember The Monsters

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Remember The Monsters from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

Ashten: It was planned! I wanted something catchy and easy to remember, and it kind of just fell into my lap. (Not, I repeat not named after the last Dexter episode of the first series, although that is a pretty cool coincidence.

Sean: Ashten had the name before I was in the band; it probably came to him in a dream.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Ashten: Just made the most sense for the message I wanted to convey through my writing. One of the few genres that can span across multiple different genres and still find a home.

Andrew: I have always been a fan of metal and hard rock. I love both the underground and mainstream, and we try to combine elements of both in our songwriting.

Sean: I’ve always been attracted to the sounds of post-hardcore, metalcore, emo, rock, and well, why not all?

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Ashten: No! I formed the band by myself when I was 16 years old. The rest of the band came later, and the band was completed as today’s lineup in 2019.

Andrew: The band was already established and had a few singles doing well before I joined. I have been singing for RTM since 2019. The past 7 years have been a lot of fun. It was a slow roll at first, but with time, we found our sound and songwriting ramped up. We are about to release our first LP and have already written and recorded most of the next two albums' worth of music. We’ve been in a writing frenzy lately!

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Ashten: Don Broco. Not much else to say. Rizz Lord can’t miss.

Andrew: Underoath- from the early days of 8-minute songs to the more pop style later albums, I am here for it all. They have intensity that is hard to match while still crafting infectious and memorable hooks.

Sean: He Is Legend

Dom: Coheed and Cambria

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Ashten: Sometimes it’s as simple as life experience, other times it’s as complicated and nuanced as the way a pivotal moment lingers long after it’s over. Those quiet, yet unresolved feelings that don’t have anywhere else to go.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was here in our home state of Arizona

7. Where would you like to act?

Any and everywhere. Put me in, coach!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

AWOLNation! We actually have a song specifically written with him in mind. We love to collaborate and have worked with members of Orgy, Asking Alexandria, Nerv, and From First to Last. We look forward to more collaborations in our future tunes as well.

9. Whom not?

Wouldn’t write anybody off across any genre. One of my favorite things about music is how creative you can really be.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Sean: Always, just pretend you’re in your underwear… wait, the other way around.

Ashten: Seems like an obvious answer, but maybe it isn’t with consistent repetition. The more you push yourself to do what terrifies you, the easier it becomes.

Dominic: My first show, I drank four beers and did a huge bong rip in a chick's car before the show.

Andrew: Take care of yourself, do warm-ups, do your best, and have fun. No reason to be nervous, you’re there for a reason. Own it!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Ashten: Too many to name, but I’ve gotta give it to Ben Bruce (Asking Alexandria) and Matt Good (Producer, From First To Last), two of the best people I’ve ever met in the industry, and a big reason I will never stop making music.

Andrew: I was really inspired when I was younger by hard rock artists that added electronic music elements, like Nine Inch Nails, Circle of Dust, and Orgy. Releasing a song with Jay Gordon last year was a dream come true for me. Orgy played at one of the first concerts I ever attended.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Ashten: A hug. They drove from New Mexico to Arizona and found my house thanks to Facebook, unbeknownst to me, attaching my location to a “thank you” DM I sent in response. Fair is fair, though; they got their hug, and I got a very hands-on privacy update.

Andrew: A gum wrapper.

Sean: A fan shouldn’t be worried about asking for “weird” things

13. What do you think of your fans?

Ashten & Sean: They’re literally everything to us, the beginning and the end

Andrew: I love meeting fans. I try to write things from a sort of open perspective, leaving room for interpretation. I like hearing how people latch on to a song and what it means to them based on their own experiences and perspectives.

14. Something to add?

Ashten & Sean: A song in these trying times

Andrew: Lots of new music coming from us, and I feel like we only recently fully dialed in our sound. We have been super busy writing and recording songs I’m more proud of than any we’ve released thus far. The best is yet to come! I like turtles.
