Interviews: DROMOS
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Funeral Doom Metal band DROMOS from England. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?
The name comes from ancient Greek, referring to a passage or a gateway often leading to a tomb. The definition fit the music on our EP and our forthcoming LP, which was largely finished by the time we settled on a name. Then there’s the broader concept of using an architectural term with grave-side significance: in most cases, the architecture will be around a lot longer than the people who commissioned it.
And of course, the name had to look ‘metal’ enough when we wrote it down and be available for use.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We’re all fans of slow, heavy music. Think bands such as Asunder, Evoken, Bell Witch, Esoteric, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Warning and Pallbearer.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We did, we were in other bands in London and met that way or through common friends.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Matt has been recently listening to Bong, Patrick picks Turbonegro as the greatest band of all time, Sami has been obsessed with Evoken’s and Worm’s latest and Amadeus has been spinning Steve Hackett and Rush a lot lately, but if we are to focus on doom metal, Asphodelus and Acolytes Of Moros are recent favourites.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
It’s the same reason we all picked up instruments in the first place, being blown away by the music we grew up with and wanting to reach even a fraction of that level ourselves, or at least enjoy the process of trying. We’re influenced by a lot of different bands when we write, but if there’s one that really pushes the band to create something that feels genuinely relevant, it’s Asunder.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our debut show will be at Desertfest London on 16th May.
7. Where would you like to act?
There are too many places, countries and continents to list here where we’d like to play someday.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We’d love to support some of the bands that influence our music one day.
9. Whom not?
We will not play with NSBM or similar bands that push hatred, racism or extreme ideologies.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
It’s good to feel a little bit of jitters, shows that you care about the performance going well! Practise as much as you can, but also try to have fun on stage and play to the best of your abilities, yet not obsess over absolute precision. People tend to remember how a show made them feel rather than the couple of wrong notes here and there. No one cares as much about your performance as you do.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For funeral doom, it’ll be mostly the bands that influenced our music; however, we’re all into a wide array of music of all sorts of genres, from acoustic and classical pieces to the gnarliest grindcore you can find.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Do we have fans?
Weird questions yet to emerge.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re good people, if they exist.
14. What do you think of our site?
Breathing the Core is new to us; it looks like you’ve got a good coverage and community building going. Cheers for supporting underground bands like ourselves.
15. Something to add?
Our debut full-length is out on May 15th May on Argonauta Records. You can connect with us via our socials @dromosdoom. Thanks for reading and listening. We really appreciate the support.
