Behind The Scenes: Maneating Orchid - Cosmic Shroud (Official Video)

“Cosmic Shroud” was probably one of the more ambitious and chaotic videos we’ve worked on as a band so far. The song revolves around an unknown cosmic phenomenon that gradually alters reality itself, so we wanted the visuals to capture some of that without relying too heavily on a literal interpretation of the lyrics.

A lot of the ideas centred around subtle visual repetition, members appearing and disappearing, switching instruments unexpectedly, and creating the feeling that something wasn't quite right beneath the surface. The goal was to leave the viewer slightly disoriented throughout the video, as though reality was shifting and breaking apart around the performance. That atmosphere also ties into the lyrics and themes of the song, which explore distorted perception and the collapse of familiar structures when confronted with something completely unknowable.

Since the song itself moves through abrupt shifts, we wanted the visuals to complement it instead of simply “performing” the track in a straightforward way. The shots, transitions, and visual motifs were built around reinforcing that.

The video was filmed over long hours with a fairly DIY approach by our friends and long-time collaborators Joshua Quadros and Angad Patil. The video was directed by Josh and shot & edited by Angad Patil. The entire process was highly collaborative, with ideas constantly being discussed, refined, and sometimes completely reworked during the shoot itself. Their understanding of the band's aesthetic and willingness to experiment played a huge role in shaping the final result.
