Track By Tracks: Inscribed - Upon The Twisted Throne (2026)
1. Inquisition for Hatred:
This is the high-octane opening number meant to set the tone for the whole record. We wanted the first moment to be pretty shocking, and I think the guitar and bass ascending licks there achieved that effect. The final riff is one of my favorites on the album. Plus some of Evie’s politically conscious lyric-writing. I love this track!
2. Machinery of War:
Melodic and catchy while still intensely thrashy, I think this song encapsulates Inscribed’s sound as a whole. One of our favorites to include in the live set. We tend to think of it almost like a sequel to Oracle of Chaos. And that bass intro is totally destructive.
3. Demotion Zone:
This song has its origins in a few riffs I wrote five years ago now, before Inscribed even really became a thing. I’m sure it’s obvious I was listening to plenty of Rush at the time. I think it’s transformed over the years into a fun and obnoxiously over-the-top cut. The solo section at the end is one of the most batshit things on the album.
4. Twisted Throne:
Evie’s tour de force of the record. The Erosion of Sanity meets I, Monarch with some quotations from 1991 Cynic. Totally wicked and probably the hardest song to play on the album, which is saying something. Very strenuous! And that gorgeous bass solo in the middle…
5. On the Stage of Death:
The “epic” of the album, plenty of crazy transitions and key changes throughout, with some nerdy anti-religious lyricism. Crush the cross! Evie and Mario wrote some really killer riffs for this one.
6. Still Time Passes:
Probably the most groovy and melodic cut on the album, with a lot of time-signature weirdness. Very proud of how this one turned out, and I think the high-concept sci-fi lyric accompanies the music well. The chorus is one of my favorite drum parts. Blast-beats in 7!
7. Oracle of Chaos:
The opening track from our EP In Silent Oblivion was rerecorded faster, more brutal, and with a more vicious vocal performance. The most straightforward song on the album and perhaps the most moshable. We have so much fun playing this one live that we knew we had to rerecord it.
8. Evasive Mind:
The one song on the album whose music was written fully by Mario. Super-thrashy with plenty of catchy melodies abound. Definitely the most angsty lyric on the album! This one’s a blast to play and is a real workout for the right hand if you’re a guitarist.
9. Formed Through Control:
Our “ballad”, ha ha. Slow and groovy sections with a cute little harmony part midway through and some homoerotic George Orwell inspiration for the lyrics. Quite different from a lot of stuff on the album, but I really like how it turned out. And this has my favorite solo from Amnio’s Fernando! Totally wicked, melodic, and sad!
