Interviews About Albums: Soothsayer - The Unbinding (2026)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Irish Atmospheric Doom Metal band Soothsayer to ask questions about their album, "The Unbinding".
1. What can you say about this new CD?
This is the quintessential Soothsayer album. It is the recording that we've always strived to make.
2. What is the meaning of the CD name?
'The Unbinding' refers to the idea of turning away from society and unbinding yourself from the shackles and weights of a harmful system in favour of searching for something more.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD?
Everyone in Soothsayer contributes their parts equally. When initially writing a song, either Con or Marc (guitars) will present a sketch and the remaining members add their own paint and colour to the piece. When writing, we are each present in the room together. Everyone has valuable input and contributions. The lyrics are all written by LÃam (vocals).
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
This answer changes frequently. Right now, 'The Vine' would be the number one song.
5. Is there a special message on this CD? If there is what it is?
Just be true to yourself. Pursue your path. If it doesn't suit those around you, that shouldn't be your problem. No matter who you are or what you want to be, move forward with good intentions and reject nonsensical orders. The power is within you.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
Since I have mentioned 'The Vine', I shall share a section here.
"The icon of disease disguised by love is an institution so corrupt. Pushing on with desperate feelings of a dense illusion hanging low. Remember our conversation about telepathic means with winged beings? They brought us to Sirius and Arcturus, then back around, through the sun."
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like
musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
The biggest inspiration for this album was, honestly, just the rural Irish landscape. We each live in the countryside here in the south of Ireland, and this is where we create our music. In the past, things had been written in an urban environment, but we have since retreated to the wild.
8. Something to add?
'The Unbinding' was recorded live in a room using mostly first takes. We stand proudly by the authenticity conveyed in this album. We feel as though we have delivered a clear message, and we look forward to beginning work on the next one. If this album strikes a chord with you, then you are a Soothsayer.
