Behind The Artworks: Mimi Barks - Dreamstate Of Fear (2026)
The EP artwork, as well as my overall visual output, is something I’m deeply involved in. I don’t just contribute ideas. I bring the initial concepts, the direction, and the visual language that everything builds from. For me, music and imagery are inseparable, so the visual world has to feel like an extension of the sound rather than something added on top of it. Every detail is intentional in that sense.. With this project, I wanted to explore duality in a very direct way, specifically the idea of heaven versus hell as states of consciousness rather than literal concepts. That’s why the vinyl comes in two different designs, allowing people to choose between “Heaven” and “Hell.” It’s meant as an experiment as much as it is part of the artwork itself. What’s been interesting so far is that a lot of people instinctively gravitate toward “Hell,” even pre-ordering it or telling me that’s the one they choose when I meet them at shows. In a way, I think that response says a lot in itself and maybe even misses part of the point. I’m curious to see what happens once the EP is fully out in the world and people experience it as a whole. Which side they choose and what that choice actually reflects about their own life and state of mind.
