Behind The Artworks: Protest The Hero - Within (2026)
Working with Martin Wittfooth has always felt effortless, but Within came with one important caveat. Martin was simultaneously preparing for an upcoming gallery exhibition, so the artwork needed to function both as an album cover and as a piece that fit within the exhibition's themes. Those themes centered on the changing seasons, the interconnectedness of life, and the enduring patterns that continue to shape the natural world despite humanity's growing impact upon it.
That challenge ultimately became one of the artwork's strengths, allowing the piece to stand on its own while still reflecting the themes of Within.
The artwork is designed to provoke questions rather than provide answers. Why is the ram covered in snow while standing in a summer landscape? Why is it charging across the river? Why does its silhouette eclipse the sun? The image suggests a world slipping out of balance, where the seasonal rhythms animals have relied upon for generations are becoming increasingly confused, disrupted, and difficult to navigate.
In many ways, we (the band) relate to that uncertainty ourselves. As we get older, we continue to wrestle with our place in the musical community. How do we remain true to our instincts while staying relevant? What should be carried forward, and what should be left behind? Like the ram, we find ourselves moving through a transitional landscape, guided more by intuition than certainty.
