Behind The Artworks: Gåte - Sigil (2026)

We reached a point where we needed a visual expression of what Gåte actually is. A live Gåte concert is almost impossible to describe, yet impossible to ignore. It feels like stepping into something raw, ancient, beautiful, uncontrollable, and deeply human all at once. For me, Gåte is less a band than a channel—a place where something hidden is allowed to emerge.

One sentence gradually came to summarize that experience: "La røyst frå djupet vekke draumen i blodet" — "Let the voice from the depths awaken the dream in the blood." To me, it expresses the paradox that by daring to descend into something ancient and instinctive, we uncover the future. That became the foundation for the sigil. The first letters of each word are woven together in a circle, inspired by traditional Norwegian rose painting, while the spiral at its centre symbolizes transcendence—not endlessly repeating the past, but evolving through it.

We knew this symbol had to be created by someone with genuine craftsmanship. Gunnhild had discovered Martine Solstad Larsen's work on Instagram, and from our very first conversations she intuitively understood what we were searching for: not simply a logo, but a symbol capable of carrying the presence of Gåte. She created the sigil entirely by hand, and after just one small revision, she had absolutely nailed it. Martin Kvamme then placed the original drawing within the growth rings of a tree, suggesting time as something living and continuous, extending beyond the frame itself. We chose copper foil and left the cover completely free of text, allowing the sigil to speak for itself.
