Interviews: Metasoma

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Rock/Metal band Metasoma from England. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?

The name Metasoma comes from the anatomy of a scorpion. It refers to the tail, and the idea was to create music that sticks with you.

2. Where is the band based?

We are based in London, UK.

3. Why did you want to play this genre?

We want to play music that we love and feel passionate about, so every writing decision is made with the aim of making each song sound as good as it possibly can. The genre itself is really a result of that process. We describe ourselves as a heavy metal band, but you can clearly hear the influence of our different musical backgrounds.

4. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Funnily enough, no. We became friends afterwards through playing and touring together.

5. What is each band member’s favourite band?

That is a difficult one.

6. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

At its core, I think it comes from the passion that we all share. After that, we inevitably influence one another and push each other to write the best songs we can. Finally, there is the world we live in. Every day, something new happens that makes you think or feel in a particular way, and that naturally finds its way into the music.

7. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Poland a few months ago, and it was brilliant. We played a small venue in Łódź, and it was packed. The energy was amazing.

8. Where would you like to play?

We would like to play in as many places as possible, in front of as many people as possible who want to have a good time. Rockstadt Extreme Fest in Romania is one of the major festivals that has caught our attention recently. Another place we are actively looking into is Dubai. Let’s just say, keep an eye on our social media for news.

9. Who would you like to share the stage with?

That is a great question. Our musical heroes would be the obvious answer. Realistically, though, it is always a blessing when we get to share the stage with friends and people we would genuinely enjoy having a few beers with after the show. Ideally, if the metal gods are willing, Lamb of God or Architects.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on how to overcome it?

I think everyone experiences stage fright at some point, for one reason or another. I definitely remember my first-ever show. I probably should have worn my brown trousers. The main thing to remember is that you are there to have fun, so focus on that. You wrote the music, you know it, and you love it. Otherwise, what would be the point? Enjoy the experience. If there are any mistakes, they are part of the show. Laugh, move on, and do not dwell on them. Life is too short. Also, when you are an unknown band, as long as the mistake does not derail the entire show, most people will not even realise that anything went wrong.

11. Which bands or artists have inspired you the most?

Each of us comes from a different musical background, so there is a mixture of genres that you can hear in our music. That being said, we always try to outdo our previous song, whether consciously or subconsciously. To name a few bands, In Flames, Sylosis, Lamb of God, Spiritbox, and Architects have all been playing through our headphones recently.

12. What is the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I cannot remember being asked for anything especially strange. I do remember receiving a hug that lasted slightly longer than it probably should have. At that point, it became a little awkward. It was all good, though.

13. What do you think of your fans?

How important are they to you? They are extremely important. They are a huge part of everything we do — probably the most important part. We make music for several reasons, and the fans are central to many of them, especially at live shows where we have the privilege of interacting with them both during and after the performance. Being part of that exchange of energy, joy, and chaos that they experience on a particular evening is amazing.

14. What do you think of our website?

We love it. It is an excellent source of music news. 

15. Is there anything else you would like to add? New music, gigs, or other news? 

The music video for “Omen” was released on 5 July, followed by the release of our newest EP, Core. We will also be performing on the main stage at Northants Rocks Festival on 25 July, followed by six live shows in Poland during the autumn. In the meantime, there will be more songwriting and other related shenanigans.
