Interviews: Season Of Melancholy
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it something you planned, or did it just come out naturally?
It’s an autumn story - an atmosphere of sadness and romance in the air, nostalgia. That feeling when you can smell autumn in the air at the end of summer, and nature begins to die in order to be reborn again.
We also liked the name Celestial Season, so we played around with it a little and came up with our own version.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We didn’t really choose the genre as such. At first, we wanted to play something closer to Doom Metal with extreme vocals.
Then our first vocalist sang with clean vocals, and we realized where we needed to go. It felt like the right direction.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Of the current lineup, there is only one member who was there from the very beginning - Andrii, the guitarist. He founded the band and created its concept, and he is still carrying those ideas forward today.
The other members joined the band mostly by invitation and became involved in creating the music.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Good question.
In general, each of us has such diverse taste in music that it would be difficult to even list everything.
For example, Andrii really loves Katatonia, Paradise Lost and Anathema, but that’s only a small part of what he listens to and loves.
We often use different musical influences and genres that have somehow left an impact on us.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Absolutely everything in life: experience, relationships, emotional states.
It so happens that we live through a time of Russia’s full-scale military aggression against our country. All of this gives us a push to create songs and leave something behind, because tomorrow may not come for us at any moment.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show took place at the Fancon festival in the capital of Ukraine.
It was an incredible experience and a very positive one. It’s a geek festival featuring cosplay, anime, gaming, many bloggers and artists.
It’s really amazing that even in these dark times, Ukrainians are trying to live their lives, raise money to support the army, and develop culture among young people and society as a whole.
7. Where would you like to perform?
We are planning to go abroad and play shows there, if it becomes possible in the near future. We have something to show audiences outside Ukraine, and it could be really exciting.
We hope we’ll be able to make it happen. Considering the experience of our colleagues and friends from Ignea and 1914, we know that it’s possible.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Jonas Renkse from Katatonia would be an incredible experience. He has an amazing voice.
9. Whom not?
We would consider pretty much any option, except musicians from Russia and those who support them.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Always, hahaha.
Seriously though, every time we’re waiting to go on stage, there’s a certain amount of nervousness, especially when it’s a big stage.
But it goes away once you start playing. We really enjoy exchanging energy with the audience, and when you see and feel that feedback, everything immediately falls into place.
For young bands, we’d say: don’t worry too much and don’t hyper-focus on playing “perfectly.” Allow yourselves to make mistakes and play like it’s your last show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Probably Katatonia more than anyone else, but there are many other musicians who give us inspiration and a creative push.
It can be Marilyn Manson or Sade, for example. Something like that.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A girl once asked us to send our vocalist to another city. She promised to love him and feed him well, hahaha.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are wonderful people who can see beauty in simple things and listen to music with their hearts.

It’s a wonderful media platform that helps promote metal music all over the world. Thank you for your work!
