Interviews: Ohmwork
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out just like that?
Ohmwork is the title of a Geezer Butler solo album from the 90s. Our bassist Helge came up with it, and we all agreed it was a pretty damn good name, especially considering some of the terrible suggestions we had lying around.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We never really decided on a genre. We just play the music we enjoy, which happens to be loud, heavy, and riff-driven.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes. We were all involved in the local music scene in Tromsø, and had known each other for years before starting Ohmwork.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
I honestly don't know. We all have pretty broad musical tastes, and I think our favourites vary depending on the day and our mood.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life, personal experiences, and whatever happens to be going on in our heads. Sometimes it's a riff, sometimes a feeling or a story.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our latest show was in Tromsø, Norway, celebrating the release of our seventh album, Ex Nihilo.
7. Where would you like to perform?
Anywhere with a great crowd and a good sound system. Playing a proper festival somewhere in the UK would be fun.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Black Sabbath would have been the ultimate one. These days, sharing a stage with Monolord, Avatarium or The Sword would be pretty damn cool.
9. Whom not?
Anyone who takes themselves too seriously. We're here to play music, not attend a corporate meeting.
10. Any of you have ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
A little nervousness is part of it. Our advice: rehearse well, don't overthink it, and remember that the audience is there to have a good time, not judge every little mistake.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Black Sabbath, Audrey Horne, Green Lung, Mastodon, Avatarium, Led Zeppelin, and Soundgarden. The list could go on forever.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing too outrageous so far. We're still waiting for someone to ask us to sign their grandmother.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They're the reason we keep doing this. We're incredibly grateful for everyone who listens, buys our records, comes to shows, and spreads the word.
14. What do you think of our site?
Great to see a platform dedicated to underground rock and metal. Keep supporting the bands!
15. Something to add?
Our seventh album, Ex Nihilo, is out now. Seven heavy tracks, recorded as a power trio, with fewer overdubs and more of what Ohmwork is all about: riffs, groove, and raw energy.
